I really don't understand how keeping old fluid would be beneficial to the transmission, especially in a case where it's shifting slower and feels worse on shifts. If it was me, I would get the fluid exchange done, it will increase lubrication and decrease the amount of heat the system is subjected to. If you're too scared to do that, then just drain and fill to get ~35% of the old fluid out to increase lubrication somewhat.

I know these guys have had shops for 15 years, etc, but our transmissions are beefy and will not be toast at 80k unlike some transmission out of a 1990 Jetta. I don't have a 5AT, but my fluid smelled burnt when I pulled it out at 60k of my 6MT and the shifting felt much nicer afterwards. In the end it's your car, do what you want, but systems fail due to a lack of lubrication, which in turn creates excess heat, neither of which an old fluid is going to provide for you. If I listened to some of these shop owners who've been in business for 30 years, my car would straight up be running like ****.

There is a Huge difference between an Auto and Manual transmission. As for the diff and Mt's change it. The diff is super easy just put it on jack stands pop the drain let it out close the drain and fill till the fluid pours out the top close. Simple.
Manual Tranny's don't need the friction to engage like the autos do so changing the fluids out wouldn't hurt anything in a manual.

Again Just my 2c.

You only need two Jack stands (or if you're ballsy two scissor jacks) A basic Metric socket set and a basic metric Allen set. I think the trans drain for autos was a 19mm socket though? don't quote me on it. Good luck bud

It's extremely easy man, just DIY. All you need is a ratchet and hex head socket, and then the fluid and fluid pump for filling. If you don't have a lift just use 2x4's, the differential isn't that far back.
