PLEASE HELP: Got ripped off with odometer rollback!!

Hey all, this is my first post. I think that I've been the victim of fraud....

I recently bought a 2004 G35 Coupe with 13000 miles on it. The owner told me that the car was garage kept, no accidents. The owner supplied me with a CarFax that looked clean. I tested it out, everything looked good, so I bought it.

When I took it home, I started realizing that there were come issues and that it definitely was in some sort of front end accident. So I decided to buy my own CarFax. The problem was that my carfax showed more miles than was on the odometer!!! 16,550 to be exact.

To make a long story short.... is there anyway to check the ECU and see if the mileage is different than what is on the odometer??? I need to to know ASAP and am willing to buy whatever scanner I need. I just want to make sure this guy didnt rip me off. He said that he odometer difference is from his wife registering the car wrong. I'm also pretty certain he faked the carfax with photoshop or something.

I know I'm new and this is my first post, but I could really use the expertise of this group ASAP before this situation gets worse (or its all in my head that the guy rolled back the odometer).

Thanks in advance! BTW, I live in Philadelphia near Huntingdon Valley of there is anyone in the area that could help me ASAP.

Consult an attorney.

additionally did you keep the copy of the carfax report the dealership gave you? If so then you may have a legal stance if not you might be out of luck.

I've already consulted an attorney and I've been very diligent in keeping all records since everything came my way in digital form, meaning I have pdfs of everything.

The attorney only wants to get involved if there is a criminal issue, meaning I'm able to prove he rolled back the odometer. Is there anyway to compare the computer on the dash with the one on the engine? Or any other computer in the car for that matter?

Contact a Infiniti dealership and request a service record of that vehicle. They will ask for a VIN number which will give you dates as well as odometer readings.

I did, I called Infiniti Customer Relations. They said that the car has never been to an Infiniti dealership for service, ever. I starting to realize this guy f**ked me.

However, what I have done is contact the DMV for a full title record search. But that will take 6-8 weeks. There might be a clue there, but it will take a while.

The worst part about this is that im 100% positive he faked the carfax he gave me, but everyone i speak to says that carfax is not a legal document and wont hold up in court.

#1 the speedo is electronic....how would you turn it back..? and last it seems to me he would have gone to a great amount of trouble for 3000 miles....the car is worth exactly the same with either mileage...and now you say it was in an accident. And I notice after doing your own carfax you are not mentioning that this corroborated your findings that the car was in accident. You are making a lot out of nothing.

16,500 miles is the amount in dispute.

zadar2626, How can you tell that it has been in an accident? Maybe some minor front end work was done that wasnt reported....such as his neighbor falling off a ladder into the hood of the car?

It's actually really easy to roll back miles if you know what your doing. I no a kid that does Beemers and benzs for like 1000 bucks.. So just because it's electronic doesn't mean it can't be done

It difficult to believe that someone would turn back the mileage for just 3K miles. Even with what your new CARFAX shows that's very low mileage for an '04 and you made a nice find. If the front end has been in a major accident you'll see paint in odd places....wheel wells etc.

CarFax's have been know to sometimes have errors. Although I personally don't have any experience with Autocheck a number of forum members feel that they are more accurate. Are you experiencing any problems with the vechicle? What exactly gives you the feeling it was in an acident?
