Could Really Use Some Advice

I have a 2005 G35 Coupe....6 speed manual transmission...production date 1/05....71K miles. I've had it since April and it seems as though the previous owner didn't see a need to change the oil. So I have a rod knocking and need to replace the motor. Infiniti is unwilling to help. Can someone tell me if this will work: Can an '06 G35 motor for an automatic transmission be used to replace my original engine? I wouldn't even be considering it but it's from a reputable company, has 17k miles on it, has a 12k parts and labor warranty, and they want $1800 for it....local, no shipping. The next best thing out there is the exact motor as mine, 86K on it, 6 month parts warranty, $2900 +shipping. Can you guys give me your opinions? Thanks!

You have rev-up motor

Unless you want to buy a new harness, new ecu and rewire a bunch of crap to put that motor...i would pass.

You have couple options but I need to know what your zipcode is to figure out where engines can be sourced from. Also how much are you willing to spend and will you increase your budget if you get upgraded parts. Are you sure it is just a rod knock then you could buy a short block and call it a day.

BRAND SPANKING NEW

Stage 1 Short Block packages start at $2765 and include CP Pistons, Eagle Rods, ACL Bearings, machining, align hone, balance, blueprint and pro assembly!

Stage 1 Long Block packages start at $3690 and include the Stage1 Short Block, ARP L19 Head Studs, ARP Main Studs, Cometic Head Gaskets, Mill & Clean Heads and assembly.

Thanks for the reply. My zip is 74011. I might be interested in the short block. Is there any more labor involved with the short block than there would be putting a salvage motor in? Would it need any other parts?

If you buy the short block they will reuse your heads, cams and the rest of the accessories and such. If you buy long block it will be better to swap in since labor will be much cheaper swapping complete engines versus try to Frankenstein it. I would try to buy a complete motor to avoid any issues in assembly. Here is a guy in DFW who has a rev-up motor with 40k miles for $900. I know when I spoke to him couple months ago he was willing to sell it for $700-800 if not lower. Keep in mind since it is a rev-up it more than likely is consuming oil and will consume oil over its life. I would spend the $3690 and just buy a fresh long block with aftermarket parts that will ensure having to OC issues or other problems.
