Acura RSX dramatic difference?
Hey first post,
I've liked the G35 ever since I first saw one. Literally. It was the background on my laptop around 4 years ago and I've liked it ever since. Anyways, I've had an Acura RSX Base for a few months (160HP 2.0 VTECH). I love the car and I'm nearly done modding it to my liking but i'm coming into some money on an insurance claim in a few months time and I was seriously considering upgrading to a 2006 G35 Coupe. I'm just wondering how dramatic the increase in performance will be as I do enjoy driving thoroughly haha. Maybe someone whose driven both could contribute? Or just anyone who think they might know? I'm assuming it'll be pretty dramatic considering the difference in HP and torque.
Any input is greatly appreciated,
Thanks.

I've been reading through this forum and people are calling the G slow and ****? Haha i'm confused what's with the haters? It's a lot faster than most cars and isn't it almost comparable to the 350z since they share a similar platform?
hahaha alright thanks for the input bro

Then i moved on to a Maxima. It put the RSX to shame in the power delivery. You could go mid rpm on the Maxima (a 3.5DE, same as the G35c) from the get go and reach the same speed and distance as the RSX at higher rpms. That made for a more comfortable and leisurely drive. It was fun going straight lines but was a boat otherwise. Definitely a low-mid rpm cruiser. Although still no slouch, it lost steam at higher rpms.
The 2nd gen G sedan then came next. The HP bump is very noticeable coming from an RSX but not so much from the Maxima in daily driving. Combined with the better gearing it's a great mid-high rpm vehicle. A very good highway cruiser. It has decent torque but the gearing on the Maxima was better for it from a stop. The G handles turns better than the Max. However, it is not as tossable as the RSX. This is mainly due to weight differences. It's a car that falls under the "fast car driven fast" category, but i find it a tad bit too powerful in daily life that you typically drive this fast car slowly (relative to its output). On the track however, where it does see the light of day several times a year, it's an absolute joy. Mileage is so-so, the lowest of the three cars mentioned here.
The G you're looking at would likely fall between the Max and this G.

I had a type s (kprod,bc header,injen,gutted...quick lil car and fun but once you get rwd and have some torque you easily forget about the horrible 2nd gear grind and fwd of the rsx. i do miss the awesome gas mileage i got from it...

Very dramatic difference from an RSX (even the type S). The G is not slow it's just that people seem to often lump it in with actual sports cars and it's not truly meant to be in that category (at least not without some heavy modding). It's a luxury coupe first and foremost and a sports car second, stock it's meant to compete with a lexus not a vette.

I test drove a type S at the same time I was looking at my G and honestly the two cars were hardly comparable. The G is a million times more comfortable, interior and ride quality, its quicker (I dont think either are real fast) and naturally much more fun to drive.
The G35 is a luxury coupe and will definitely be faster than your RSX, it may feel bigger and heavier and thats because it is a bigger car but it is definitely faster if you compare them STOCK vs STOCK. Those people on the RSX forums that are claiming the G35 is slow are just haters.
The Z practically is the same platform but they were designed for much better handling, even though the acceleration between the two are almost identical (similar models).
The G35 is not a sports car.
^^that took 13 more posts than expected from Driver.
but everyone here summed it up.
As far as the slow comments.. you will see that on forums. the K series is a beats when built and tuned so RSX's and other Hondas that are heavily modded can outperform heavily modded G's.
and again like others have said, the G isnt a sports car and is heavy. Its got plenty of torque to move but it's not as nimble as your RSX.
