Driver Seat Tear - Anyone else?

I've searched for people having this same problem but can't find any threads newer than 2009. Basically, i have a small tear on the lower left bolster of my driverseat (used to be a crease but slowly started tearing) close to the plastic handle and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how much it cost to get fixed?

It's on an '03 so definitely not in warranty. I called a highly recommended local upholstery shop and they said replacing the entire lower vinyl section is the only way to fix it and quoted me $350. I was thinking about bringing it by a couple shops this afternoon to let them actually see it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had better luck?

Yeah I've read about a few ppl having luck with that, but I bought the car 2nd hand so don't really have a relationship with the dealership. Did you get your's fixed? I think $350 is a lot of money for such a small tear so I might just have to live with it for now. Just a major eye sore.

i was quoted $350 by an auto upholstery as well, but I was also asking them to rebuild the crushed foam and lower the seat controls

I found stick on patches of leather that are very thin, low profile and would cover it temporarily on ebay for about $10 shipped, i plan on having my seats redone or may just get 2 Bride seats for replacements, ill post the link once i find it

yeah getting my HFC's installed and an Osiris Tune take priority over this by far. Was hoping there'd be a way to either fix it or keep it from getting worse for less than $100.

I have this same issue. Bought car second hand.

I researched and there is a product on Amazon (about $20-$30) called NRS Tear-Aid Type-A.. this is the one that can be used on non-oiled leather.
Amazon Amazon

I bought the roll and cut the shape out and tried it out. So far so good. It is basically a very elastic clear band aid. it is extremely sticky. What I did was to prevent the leather from ripping more and to kind of cover it up, I pushed the fold/crease of the leather so you couldn't see the tear that much and then I cut out a large square of the tape and placed it on it (they give you alcohol pads to clean the area first).

I let the tape sit there for a few hours (they recommend 1 hour).. then I drove the car around all day and got in and out of the car.. the leather didn't seem to be getting worse or anything and the tape (being flexible) was able to withstand my body putting pressure around the area.

If for some reason it doesn't hold up within the next few weeks, I'll update this.. but for now it's a pretty good cheap alternative. I was more concerned about the tear getting worse.. which it looks like the patch has prevented.

Mine never tore but the bolster was replaced twice for collapsing. It was covered under warranty twice. I had the bolster recently replaced under an extended warranty and my car is almost 8 years old! I also had the plastic side piece replaced by the dealer a few months ago. I got a quote by an upholstery shop of $85.00 to replace the side vinyl piece on the left side of the driver's seat. The quote you received sounds very high.

I had this issue addressed with the TSB while under warranty.

If I remember correctly, a TSB should be honored regardless of whether the vehicle is under warranty or not. Now a dealer may tell you otherwise, so you may have to check with different dealers, but the TSB should apply whether the car is under warranty or not and it shouldn't matter if you are not the original owner of the vehicle.
