Half Synthetic or Full Synthetic for Oil change?

At a Nissan dealership, they have both types of synthetic. I was going to go with 5W-30 but I'd need the full synthetic right? What exactly is put into the half? I'm assuming its half synthetic and half regular oil? I should say that I'm at 10K miles now and have dino'ed all the way to fully pass the so called break-in. I know we all have differing opinions on it. I'm almost positive I should be going with the fully synthetic but just to confirm here. I live in DC and Mobil 5W-30 seems the best bet. Yes, I know Amsoil and Redline are better but the Mobil is also easily available.

Maybe someone can inform me here.

Thanks.

If you want a blended synthetic, it's better if you blend it yourself.(ie, put in half dino-juice and half synthetic)

The "pre-blended" synthetics, only contain something like 5-15% synthetic, from what I remember. I've been using full synthetic Mobile-1 since the very first oil change at 3750.

Yeah thats the thing. At my dealership they recommend to not go with synthetic but just their regular oil which they say is 5W-30 but i'm not sure what that means. They offer Mobil-1 there. Obviously they just want me to come back more often and I'd probably wait 5K miles between changes.

IMO Mobil 1 says you can go 10K miles in between changes but I'd say 5-6K miles and you should be okay. This depends on also your climate and also your driving habits.

BMW service interval on Mobil1 is 15k IIRC.

If you only have 10k on your car, just switch over to full synth. You may notice a little extra consumption with the first batch, but thats normal. The only time you should slowly introduce it is if you have a higher mileage car (60k+).

oh yeah, forgot to mention that. BMW may recommend 15k, Mobil may recommend 10, but I change every 5

I've been using fully synthetic Castrol Syntec (5W30) since first oil change.

While still within the warrantee period the specified interval still applies
regardless of which type you use.
