Re: Break-In Practices

You actually called your dealer after my post didn't you? What an idiot...Well looks like I've been successful at getting under yours and conquie's skin....Looks like my work is done here...haha..Idiot! Be easy...and enjoy your coupe...hope your not a ricer..cuz then you might have a "vendetta" against you as well...And make sure you break it in however you see fit.

Re: Break-In Practices

My dealer told me to drive it the way I wanted to from day one and not to baby it or anything. He said the engine was already broken in and that the computer would learn quicker if I just drove it the way I wanted to. All I am concerned about is that my rings seated properly and that there is not loss in compression. Rings will seat themselves in the first couple hundred miles so there is not point in babying the engine after that. I would love it if we could pull apart 2 engines that were broken-in in the two different fashions and see what they look like. If anyone gets any internal work done on their motors please take pictures and post them with your break-in method.

Well, not that it matters, since I don't do or think anything based on other people's opinions (especially those of idiots), but no, I actually did call the dealer before I posted my first comment. Think whatever you want though cause it doesn't really mattter a whole lot. And I'm pretty sure you're the one who was losing their cool for the last 2 pages of this debate. I don't think I once cursed or resorted to elementary school jokes (which you seem to be fond of). Whatever though, it doesn't matter, cause I'm pretty sure that anyone with half a brain can see who the intelligent one is....

Re: Break-In Practices

First I like to say your dealer sucks. You would probably not see much of a difference in pictures. It's all the micro cracks that you introduce that will cause problems down the line. The tight spots will have high friction points. These will have heat points and depending on the type of steel used, you will either harden, anneal the surface. If it hardens the surface, it may crack. If its annealed, you will have accelerated wear points thus allowing blow buy.

But its your engine. Happy motoring.

Re: Break-In Practices

Quick note here....why care about the break-in process??

I'm selling my car in 3 to 4 years anyway and getting myself a better car! You don't want to be a has been once the new models come out....let the next car owner suffer the punishment you put on the G.

Re: Break-In Practices

some people like to keep their cars for more than 3 years at a time.....thats why they invented Leasing, for people who like to change every 2-3 years

Re: Break-In Practices

I know I don't check out a mint 96 Z when i see it out on the street. To me...old news...move on with the trend...

The G35 is not for leasing anyways...why buy this car and not put miles on it? or why lease because you can't afford to make payments on a purchase? if you can't afford then you ain't going to impress your lady taking her home to your moms

Re: Break-In Practices

If you pull a 0-60 run at every stop light, don't you run the risk of glazing your cylinder walls? And if you are too "Granny" on your car, don't you run the risk of not ever letting the engine seat properly?
I did have an experience with an old car of mine. Newly rebuilt motor, 100 miles, 4k-5k rpm. The cylinders glazed up before letting the piston rings seal then died from extreme heat (friction).
