The pics I posted are with the cables attached/exposed- what you see is what you get. The power cord runs along the headliner trim and down insided the A-Pillar trim.

Well my consern isnt totally having the calbe hidden, I just dont want them to go from detector down. I dont want it covering my console (where the radio is). Your cable goes up and you dont see it going through the windshield. What u have is what I would like to have. the V1 (even though its SO BIG) with an install that is as clean as that is just what I want.

Is the cable from the V1 going where the mirror is? I mean is it getting its power from there? If so, how do you do that and do you have to peal cables and stuff?

Hi All,

I am planning on putting a V1 in the G. The install I was thinking of doing is very similar to what I did on my 01 vette. I was going to mount the V1 so it was behind the rear view mirror - below the tint line. However the rear sensor would stick out the side. I then run the wire in the headliner and down the A pillar to the fuse box. I then connect the V1 concealed mount. I plan to put it on the little shelf right where the A pillar meets the dash on the drivers side with 3m tape.

There are a few things that are requirements for my installations:

1) No one can see the radar detector lights from behind
2) The lights need to be very close to my field of vision when driving because there are a lot of times I will not hear the detector because of the stereo
3) The install needs to be someone invisable to cops who may get you. So I stand outside my window like a cop would. Is the radar easilly seen? With this install no.
4) No visable wires

With this install I come close to accomplishing all 4.

One thing I have not checked on the G is if I can get the V1 behind the rear view mirror.

I do like the ashtray install idea a lot. But it is too far down for me to see it.

Kevin

planing... just go google and type "order buy valentine v1"

@ dba4life - Isnt it allowed where you are? No matter how you hide it, if they are not allowed it will be seen by a cop who stops you. It has to be mounted high to better catch signal

Hopefully someone can give a link to a very detailed explanation on how to do the hidden cable install.

Radar detectors are legal where I live (NC). I just don't want them to see it if possible.

And I did get caught in Virginia (illegal) 6 years ago (Before the V1) and I had the radar (uniden) installed so he could not see it. He didn't see it so he didn't take it. So I know from first hand experience your statement is not correct.

Here is the bracket I built. The lip slides into the headliner to support the weight and the bracket with the hole goes into the visor clips. This prevents any forward/backward motion. To remove the visor clip, just press a screwdriver in the rear of the clip and rotate clockwise. The power comes from the dimming mirror.

Do you take the detector off when the cop wants to stop you?

Whether detector is legal or not, I know cops don't like them. So from your experience, do you think it's good idea to quickly remove the detector and hide when a cop is following you? Also, can they search your car if they suspect that you have one?

I followed the instructions here:

http://g-owners.com/article_read.asp?id=3

I didn't mount it using a bracket. Just use the regular suction cups and keep it just to the right of the mirror. Cops can not see it from their vantage point. I've never had a problem with it all the times I've been pulled over (not speeding related). I just hide the remote display.

The absolute last thing you want to do is try to stash something when a cop is following you or when they pull you over. They are observing you closely and any frantic movements inside your vehicle will look hella suspicious. You may turn a routine traffic stop into something more memorable. I've got a V1 mounted in plain sight (from the rear) on my visor. If I get pulled over I figure that my demeanor will help my case a lot better than the lack of a radar detector.

As I recall, cops can't search your vehicle without your consent. So you should be fine unless there's something in plain view that would tip the cop off. Unless radar detectors are illegal in that juridiction, you wouldn't have to worry about a cop searching for one anyway.

Hey you guys, would you happen to have taken pictures of how to access the power supply up by the interior lights? I have never pulled this area apart before & I really dont want to break anything.

I'm definately going to install my detector up by the mirror :-)
