Valentine 1 Owners...Need Advice

My valentine 1 just came in the mail, and I was wondering where people have the united mounted???

I hate the look of suction cups, and I have mine up on the Driver side visor with the visor clip. But Its behind the "Black Strip" of the windshield and i thought that may screw up the detection of signals???

Anyone notice performance differences as to where its mounted? Suctioned in the middle of the windshield...up high behind the mirror....or Clipped on to the visors.

ALSO if you have pics of custom installs for the hide-away unit PLEASE POST!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS A LOT!!!!!!

I Love the idea of having it ontop or below the mirror, but the reason why I like it on the visor is because i can just clip it off and take it with me. Leaving it in the car is asking for a bashed window and missing V1. :-(

anyone have pics of custom installs for the hide-away face?

I made this tempered steel mount for my old V-1 way back. It uses the visor mount bracket, and allows one-handed mount/dismounts in 2 to 3 seconds, including connecting/disconnecting the power cable. The mount (permanently attached by industrial double-stick) is hidden by the tint band, and allows a clear view for the V-1 just below the tint. No fuss, shake, or bother, the V-1 is solidly up there in seconds.

I thought about putting the remote display in the ashtray, but I decided on more line-of-sight location. With a quick downward glance, it's easy to see without taking my eyes off the road for more than a split second, and I can still see the needle of the temp gauge from normal sitting position.

V1 mounting info.
http://www.valentine1.com/moreinfo/Mounting_pg15-17.pdf
Site excerpt: "works best when mounted high in the windshield, and toward the center between the windshield pillars. ... Detector performance is enhanced by a high mounting position. Two reasons. For radar, a longer sight line to the horizon always helps. For laser, moving away from the hood and its sun reflections helps a lot."

My V1 is mounted on coupe driver's side visor w/clip, remote display in ashtray. I love this setup. It's always worked and the clip and ashtray are easy to remove/close so don't advertise use/possession. As for ashtray visibility, I've never had a problem; besides, I usually know how to react from audible alone. I'm on holiday w/o camera; if you want pics and install advice, email me and I'll send them when I get home. There are links with good instructions, but I never saw any to install remote display in ashtray. It's easy and saved me $300 (what my dealer charges).

You definitely want a remote display to keep free riders and criminals off your tail. As for install, after you remove ashtray liner (slips right out), it's a perfect fit with 3m double-sided tape to hold in place. By the time you get your remote display, I should be back home to send off pics. Happy holidays.

I'd love to see some pics or hear some wiring suggestions for the ashtray mounting. Sounds like a great place to put it, unless you can integrate it into the instrument cluster cleanly.

I hardwired my current car (Maxima) and ran wires under the pillar and headliner to the area to the right of the rear view mirror. Will this work on the G as well?

Thanks for the confirmation! Glad to hear that works. In my Maxima I tapped into the cig lighter power cable inside the dash, I guess I'll do the same on the G.

Yeah i think the ashtray is a neat place...i may take out the ash tray and hand it over to the custom shop and make them cut it out and make it flush..so that it looks flush with the face when the ash tray is closed

I've got my remote mounted inside the gauge cluster as close to my line of sight as possible. The ashtray was way too low for me to look at every time it goes off. I see my remote go off before I hear it. I have pics posted here but they don't work because of the site change.
