Buying an 03 coupe, how do I know if it has vlsd?

Hey Guys,

I am looking at an used 03 coupe 5/AT how can I tell if it has the limited slip differential? It has the 18inch rims, a spoiler and bose. Thanks

Does it have the VLSD switch located on the left side of the dash next to the trunk release? This switch can be toggled (pushed on/off) to disable the electronic traction control and then will light up in the gauges area in the off position.

You are thinking of the VDC Vehicle Dynamic Control which is not the same thing.

You cannot turn off/on the VLSD. It is a part of your rear differential.

So long as the 18" are part of the Perf. Tire and Wheel package and not installed by the owner in place of the 17", the answer is YES. I'm sure if you check the aluminum plate under the hood, it will say whether it's open or viscous.

It was part of the Performance Tire and Wheel package in '03, and I believe it is viscous.
As to how to test for it:
My suggestion would be to turn off the VDC, put a wheel on a slippery surface (sand or ice) and slowly accelerate to check for wheel slippage on the icy surface.
If you have limited slip, you'll not spin, if you don't have it, then the wheel on the slippery surface will spin easily and no power will go to the wheel with traction.

Actually by design, viscous limited slip allow's slippage before the fluid inside it can attempt to lock, too much for my tastes.
