IMO it's pertinent to the topic at hand. Even if it wasn't... there's no harm or forum rule that I know of about a thread slightly deviating from the title description as it progresses.

This is what I'm getting at.

I swear people on this forum can NOT discuss a race between two cars without a huge back and forth autos and manuals. It's a dance we've done ten billion times, why must we go through this same crap again?!

Given the two cars are exactly equal, both drivers are perfect (robot stigs perhaps?) and all the ratios are the same, the manual is faster. In the real world this never ever happens.
It's all entirely dependent upon the car, the gearing, oh and not the least of which the skill of the driver.

...but here's the hitch, if either driver is even half decent:
an 04 MT G35 will lose to an 09 AT WRX
an 04 AT G35 will lose to an 09 MT WRX
an 04 MT G35 will lose to an 09 MT WRX
and an 04 AT G35 will lose to an 09 AT WRX

Given that we take the driver out of the equation (which car is faster) the transmission doesn't make enough of a difference to save the G, so why are we wasting words and dragging a topic off on a tangent talking about at/vs/mt, much less the finer details of sequential gearboxes??!!? Last I checked neither the G nor WRX came with a SMG anyway.

OP didn't ask which one took more skill to drive either, or which one was more fun to drive.

 

Question, I have an 04 MT and might consider trading it to an 05 AT. Do you think i might have a chance against the 09 WRX MT? Please bro let me know..

 

Sure, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better about your slushbox!

 

Same motor, weaker transmission. Even if you traded for an 05 MT which comes with the revup motor, you'll still lose. Until you boost a G, you can only hope to keep up.

Serious question?. does anyone else agree that an 07 g sedan and 07 and up 350z's would have a chance against the wrx? given that they have the HR motor
