Battery Cold Crank Question
Battery Cold Crank Question
To start off I may have put this in the wrong spot if so I apologize.
I own a 04 G35 Coupe Auto with Borla cat back exhaust, AEM CAI, Eibach Prokit springs (As far as I know, bought the car with those mods done.)
Here is my problem...
I'm having some trouble in the morning when I'm starting my car. Engine will start up but then I have to step on the gas a little to keep the engine running because it will drop to like 200 RPMs and sometimes just die...almost like its not Fuel Injected and requires the step on the gas??? Today (45 degrees outside) when I went to start the car it wouldn't turn over till I hooked up some jumper cables and it had enough to start...
My current battery has 750 Cold Crank Amps.
My question is What are you guys using as a battery in your cars? Has anyone else had this problem or is this a normal thing??? Any ideas what it could be? Autozone said the battery, alternator and starter are all at 100% and don't need replacing.

The battery just gives the engine power to crank. If it starts up at all its not the battery. I had the same problem on my first car and a local shop just turned up the idle rpms. My cai threw off the mass air flow sensor somehow
I'd start with the MAF sensor. MAF sensors can get dirty and really screw up how your car runs. Fortunately, they're very easy to clean if you use specialized Mass-Airlflow Sensor spray. MAF sensors are also designed to pick up the intake air temperature which is crucial to the vehicle operating properly at all temperature ranges.
Definitely clean that out first and take special precautions not to damage it by touching the little wires inside the sensor with anything... just remove the sensor, spray it with the MAF sensor cleaning agent, let it dry and reinstall.
If you have access to a Scangauge tool or other real-time OBD-II reader, you can see what the readouts are for your MAF sensor while the car is running and maybe get an idea if that's the problem or not. The intake air temperatures should normally be about 1 to 5 degrees higher than the ambient air temperature while the car is moving, and higher if it's fully warmed up and sitting still(from heat soak in the engine bay).

If you car didn't crank over until you boosted it, thats the battery. Now you could have left a light on or something. As for the low idle that has nothing to do with your battery, so those are two totally seperate symptoms. 750 CCA is plenty. Definetly clean your MAF and your throttle body first and see if that fixes the problem with your idling.
