99.9% of all G35 will meet the EPA numbers when driven by the COMPUTER on the simulated road test [rolling road type dyno]. or on the road loop test
Exceeding 60.5 mph peak [56 mph average] highway [40 mph city no accelerations beyond a creep] and all bets are off. Same with AC use or in the rain.

Study how the EPA sticker mpg is tested.......unfortunately without a 55 mph speed limit the numbers are pretty meaningless.........subtract 3-4 MPG from each sticker category number and you get closer to what it is with todays driving speeds.

I keep pretty good records of my gas consumption... and it's a coincidence because I'm in the middle of an experiment and I read this thread.

04 6mt coupe, about 9k miles, premium package etc etc.

I live in Northern Virginia, so it's about 75% highway driving and I get about 20-22 miles per gallon typically - I fill up usually at about 350 miles/tank.

The experiment I am doing now is to accelerate slowly (like grandma) and never take it above 2500 rpm (very difficult to do) - If I'm not mistaken, 2500 rpm in 6th gear is about 65 mph... the whole goal is trying to get 450 miles/tank - for various reasons.

anyway... the nav says right now that I'm getting 26 mpg. So i don't know how that helps you except to tell you that the car is capable of much higher than 11, as evidenced by the 50 replies.

This experiment won't last. Not in this car. No way. I'm bound to pull up to a red light next to someone...

Omar, I'm not sure about your math being correct. I really doubt you fill up 20 gallons (In fact I've never heard of anyone filling it up that much). You probably at the most fill in 16-17 gallons. At least thats the most I've ever gotten. If thats the case your gas mileage isn't THAT bad and that includes you having a heavy foot.

Incidentally, I just got my best gas mileage just my past run with 355 miles and filled it up 16 gallons. Thats 22 MPG and almost all of that is traffic. To get average MPG, always look at how much you fill up and how many miles you went in your last run and see.

On a consistent basis, i get 260 miles going past the empty mark. This is ridiculous. 260/20 = 13 mpg!!!!!

Remember that most people don't fill up with 20 gallons. When mine hits E I can usually only put 17 gallons in. So there's still 3 gallons hiding in the tank.

The best way to measure is to fill up you tank to the max, reset your trip computer then take note of how many miles you've driven the next time you fill up, and also take note of how much gas you just pumped into your car to fill it up. Divide those miles by the amount of gas that you just put in and you should have a reasonably accurate mileage. 294/17.2= 17.09 for example.

I get about 17.5 btw and I stand on the gas pedal.

I get 17 mpg using 93 octane, whether I take it easy or hard on the pedal. BTW, I got almost all the N/A options in my car. Pop charger, z-tube, plenum, hi-flow cats, cat-back 3" exhaust. (NO ECU FLASH)

i usually get between 17-20 mpg per tank; i reset the navi gas mileage calculator everytime i fill up. i'm a pretty spirited driver - my mileage varies depending on how hard i've been driving, or if i get a lot of highway miles on each tank of gas.

I have 7200 on my G and i get about 23mph city driving. I never shift above 2.5ish K, no need to really and like someone had mentioned i start out in 2nd about 90% of the time 1st is just too short. I use 92 octane only. Im sure you ve heard this before but if your getting 11 mpg get it checked out. Full size trucks getting 4more mpg then you

In The NAV Screen you can reset the MPG but there is also a screen for intervals. What determines these intervals?
At what point a new bar starts? Can somebody explain that to me...?
I know I will figure it out but I have the car only a few days.

354 miles driven/17.1 gallons filled = 20.7 mpg

if you go 260 miles, and you put in 20 gals - you need to take a gun and have a talk with your gas station or the state board of weights and measures.

1) I don't care if you start with a bone dry tank (like you just replaced it with a new empty factory tank) - you will never get the 20 gals it is rated for. On level ground, you might get 19.75 into if you are lucky.

2) if yor gas pump says you are putting 20 gals in, and you didn't push it there - you are being screwed !!!!

i believe that each time you reset the MPG it creates a new interval on the bar graph. it probably stores the last dozen or so intervals - however many bars there are on the screen.

You would not divide by 20 unless your tank was completely empty when you arrived at the pumps. You should divide by the number of gallons you put in your car from the pump or around there.
