Exhaust Question HR or Nismo

Hey everybody I tried searching a bit and really couldnt find anything to answer my question hope no one tries to burn me for this. Anyways i have an 04 coupe with AAM SPEC 2.5 high flow cats and a cat back nismo s-tune exhaust. I do have some rasp which isnt that bad but noticeable. My questions are 1. would buying an HR y pipe or another aftermarket y-pipe eliminate the rasp and make it sound deeper?2.By havng the nismo s tune y-pipe is it like an HR y-pipe? 3. if not which one is better to buy the aftermarket one like Megan Racing Y-pipe or the HR y-pipe? Any input would be great. thanks

get a motordyne xyz w/ resonator..i can tell u from personal experience it will sound great and be worth the money..no rasp anymore..nice and clean sound and a much better y pipe..also the nismo s tune exhaust when using the nismo y pipe with high flow cats or test pipes is notorious for causing pieces throughout the exhaust to crack because of the design. i cracked a few sets of high flow cats and a mid pipe while using the nismo y pipe. all that is solved with the motordyne xyz.

any of those other y pipes are not going to help your rasp situation but will solve the cracking issue i talked about...might as well get the motordyne xyz w/resonator and solve both problems..

All great info and correct. If you cant drop 500 on the MD XYZ then settle for a meagan or something along those lines but the MD is worth it!!

The XYZ pipe just replaces the OEM y-pipe or Nismo y-pipe in your case. Your OEM cats or HFCs will still be there in between the headers and whatever y-pipe you decide to use. THe XYZ pipe from MD has a few option after the y when they come together to form a single pipe. It can go to a straight pipe, high-flow, and one more option I think.. Regardless of your choice for the XYZ if you have OEM cats you will pass smog testing.

You're close to being correct on the XYZ. It is offered in 3 configurations: with a straight pipe extension, with a resonator module, or with an HFC module. And yes, it's well worth the money.

cats still stay in place, just the y pipe you are using gets replaced which i beleive you are using the nismo y pipe.

in your case since you have high flow cats id get the motordyne xyz w/ resonator attachment. it will get rid of your rasp and solve any issues you would have in the future with cracking pipes by replacing your nismo y pipe. it truly is worth the extra money

ya post it up..ur gonna love it..

not my video but this is my car that someone got of me at the track i found on youtube..This was with berk non resonated test pipes, motordyne xyz w/resonator, nismo s-tune mid pipe and muffler section. It had no rasp but will be a little bit higher pitched than what you will have with the high flow cats, yours will sound a little bit more mellow. This camera actually doesnt do it justice though that they got it with but all my vids arent loaded on the computer to show a better sound of it.

I hav full nismo s-tune catback exhaust with the megan racing testpipes. It sounds great no rasp. Also, i dont really understand why you said it would cause the nismo exhaust to crack. I have been driving with this setup for 65000miles already still no problem.

Rasp is inherent to test pipes, especially with the nismo. You most likely just don't notice it. Also, it's a well documented fact that nismo Y pipes put stress on the rest of the exhaust, and have caused cracks for many people. You're one of the lucky ones, I just hope it stays that way.
