So yes im an idiot, for listening to my stupid cousin. So I have an 07 g35 coupe, and decided to use break fluid to clean my headlights. My cousin said it worked, and i believed him. Anyway they are now 'Hazy" as expected. Is there anyway to sand them down somehow?? If so what kind do i use?? Thanks

sounds like you need to ask your cousin to get you new headlights. BRAKE fluid is not plastic safe.....it'll even strip car paint off

you could maybe try and sand them down with 1000 then 1200 then hit them with plastx from meguiars.

go "wash" your cousin's car for him. brake fluid is good at taking bugs and tar off........

Go to autozone and get some wetsand paper with headlight polish...then go to walmart and get a spray bottle and fill it with water and GO TO TOWN

Rubbing compund will also help if you have some lying around.

Damn, sounds like your cousin set you up! Sucks, but find comfort in knowing we've all been there and made stupid mistakes before......in fact, I made a stupid mistake the other day by trying to buff out some scuff marks from my paint....got the scuff marks out, unfortunatly I took the clear and pearl off too. You may be able to wet sand and then buff/polish the fade out of them....but I'd probably have someone professionally do it.

Why is this the third thread I've read on this forum about someone using brake fluid on headlights, wtf is wrong with people?

cuz it makes it nice and shiny just for few seconds.


I actually used Acetone on my brothers van interior plastic panels.
It melted a top layer of the plastic (just like you would expect) and once it dried out panels remain shiny as evah.
Best restoration method ever for non see through, non glass finish plastics.

My previous 06 TL had very hazy headlights when I bought it....tape up your area, wet sand with 1000/1500/3000, hand polish with Plast-X and give them a high speed buff with some type of polish, this method worked perfectly for me. You just need to make sure you either clear them afterward or keep some wax on frequently otherwise I have heard they get hazy again much worse.
