I have an 05 g35 coupe with 45k miles. I need brake pads for sure and just ordered some from the dealer. They said i should change my rotors every time i change my pads. My rotors look to be in pretty good condition to me and never really had an issue with stopping (no noises or anything). Not sure if this guy is just trying to get more money out of me or what. The dealer wants like 600 for everything without labor which seems crazy expensive. Maybe i will toss a pic of one of my rotors on here.

Are they warped or cause shaking while braking? If not sounds like a scam. Usually you can turn them at least once or twice, even if they are x-drilled and slotted. Another trick Hawk says is to sand the deposits off the rotor (use a breaking mask apparatus) when you replace the pads. I don't recall what grit they recommended, either 130 or 180 grit.

Changing rotors every time you need pads....no! You only need to change rotors when they become worn beyond OE specs. Never go to the dealership other than recalls or warranty work! These are the guys that wanted $300 to service my AT at my 30K mile service....trust issues, hell yes!

What if they're grooved but not warped. .? TIA.

If they have grooves in them then you buy new rotors and throw the old rotors away.

Don't throw the old rotors away! Get them resurfaced and reuse them the next time you need rotors. It's super cheap for resurfacing.

I was going to resurface them. But won't that make them to thin to work as specd.?

Have them checked with a micrometer and if there is at least 30-35 thousands left before discard spec then get them resurfaced if not get new.
