Cheap and easy way to fix yellowing of headlights!
So I was washing my car today and I came upon my headlights which were beginning to fog up and yellow. I've noticed it before, and was planning on buying the Mother's headlight restoration kit. However, when I was fixing some scratches with my car with Scratch X 2.0, I came up to my headlights, and thought, why not, it's worth a shot. The results were amazing, it took away almost all the yellowing and fogging after about only a minute of wiping.
Here are some pics.
A bottle of Scratch X 2.0
Before (notice the fogging, especially in the upper right)
A dirty paper towel later... (using a microfiber towel is preferred... I just didn't have any at the time so I found the next best thing)
The end result
Save yourself some money and use your Scratch X 2.0 to get rid of the headlight yellowing instead of buying the headlight restoration kit.

Exactly....^....is that a paper towel you used to remove the ScratchX? If so you're doing it wrong, go to Costco and buy there microfiber towels. They're great for this kinda job or under the hood/wheels and so cheap you can wash em or throw them away....your choice!

Check this thread out for some more ideas to help you with HL restoration. I started it to essentially say the same thing and it turned into a pretty good productive forum for giving the bird to HLR kits.

All you need to do is remove the very top layer that has oxidized, which there are many cheap ways to do depending on the severity. After, in order to prevent further oxidation, you'll need to keep it protected so the oxygen will not come in contact with the plastic. I recommend keeping it sealed/waxed, and a spray wax(Meguiar's) is great for this kind of stuff. Just take 10 seconds to touch it up every couple of weeks with a fresh coat of spray wax.

That stuff is junk. I've used it before, and it did nothing for my headlights.
I've actually had pretty good luck with Mother's Mag Polish on headlights. It pulls the oxidation right out. The problem is, once the factory protectant coat is removed from the headlight, it's going to continually re-oxidize in a short period of time. For me, I have to polish (one) of my headlights every three weeks or so.
