Infiniti dealership trying to get money out of me?

Hello all! hopefully somebody can be of assistance:

I can't find many threads about this so its raising a red flag for me on why it happened

I took my 07 g35 coupe 45 minutes north(closest infiniti dealership unfortunately) to get my cars 65k mile oil change. All i was having done was an oil change and ive not had many issues with this car at all.... after the hour wait i get my car back and the first turn i made out of the dealership i could tell something was wrong with the steering. There was a kink in it that made it really hard to make smooth turns but i still ventured 45 minutes home(straight drive most of the way). when i finally got home i decided that the steering issue was pretty bad/dangerous so i immediately called them and took my car back.......

First the service lady tells me that i need a replacement part for the steering column that cost 2 grand.. i laughed and said nope and tried getting her to tell me exactly what was wrong with it(since i had never had this issue before they had just serviced it)... so i told her to go talk to the mechanic and try again. she came back and said the issue is a 300$ rubber piece. That made me a little happier. Im more mechanically inclined than alot of infinitis' costumers(atleast down here in FL where its mostly rich older people) so obviously im not going to whip out my wallet for an issue that arised after an infiniti mechanic worked on my car. I argued with them enough that i got to talk to the mechanic and he settled this dispute by 'lubing up the fault steering peice'.. i drove out of the delearship and my steering was all of a sudden fixed! im at 68k miles and still turns exactly how it should(no kinks/hard spots)

The thing that gets me is that i know the mechanic must have felt the hard spot when parking my car after he finished my oil change.

Well i need another oil change and its my second to last one before my warranty is up and I don't necessarily trust the delearship anymore. For all I really know, there could be something actually wrong, so I want to see what you all thought of it and possibly what i should do about it.

thanks in advanced!
Connor

just cause i'm still under warranty for 2 more oil changes. i used to get ease of mind knowing a certified infiniti mechanic is working on my car. Even though they tend to forget to put the engine cover back on. plus i don't have to pay anything upfront. ill surely be doing it myself after once the warranty is up

Wouldn't you rather do it yourself then drive an hour and a half round trip just for an oil change?...even if it is free?

i enjoy driving a little too much. you got a point though. i'm going to do it from now and on now that you said that.. hasn't answered my question about the "steering issue" but im starting to think doing my own oil and checkups will solve that "issue"

that's what i'm saying. i added all those expenses at the price that i bought the car at. but your all right i need to do my own oil change instead of putting more miles on my car and wasting time/gas to get to the delearship... don't know why i didn't think of that before /facepalm

How in the hell can you diagnose a problem over the phone? That should have been your first red flag....and from a female? LMAO If you still have your warranty the cost to replace what ever is wrong with your steering should be zero! You can maintain your warranty if you keep all your paperwork/receipts. Start buying quality synthetic oil like AMSOIL and filters like WIX, and DIY....Gary

If you're going to get an oil change at a dealer go to Nissan. The Nissan dealer in my area charges half the price for oil changes than Infiniti and have never tried to get me to do any services I didn't go there for.

Or just find a good mechanic

"Certified" sure, but I wouldn't let any dealer mechanic touch my car. Every car I have ever owned has been f***ed up by a "certified" dealer mechanic at one point or another.

Yeah. The dealerships can be a real crap shoot. I'd get opinions on a good local mechanic, someone who stands behind their work. My one stop at the local Infiniti dealer was enough to scare me away..
