So im going to dyno my car in the morning, and getting a A/F ratio checked. Anyways i was just curious as to which gear ( 4th or 5th ) is best to dyno in? with the G thanks!

I've always done 4th with my other cars but they were all 5speed, I would imagine it would be the same for a 6MT since 6th is essentially an overdrive gear.

I thought 5AT is dynoed in 3rd and 6MT in 4th.

6MT - 5th gear and the 5AT - 4th gear. IIRC, you want to be as close to a 1:1 gear ratio as possible.

That's true, if 4th gear is your 1:1 gear, you definitely want to dyno in 4th. You can do both 3rd and 4th gear pulls, if you want the best numbers you can dyno in 3rd too. They'll be higher in 3rd gear just not as accurate.

Just make sure the car is strapped down cause I've seen a car do a 4th gear pull and one of the straps broke and luckily just one. So he switched to a 3rd gear due to being scared.

Curious, how much do dyno runs cost? I was thinking of doing a before/after when I install some mods so I can see any HP (and more importantly Torque) increase

i dyno'd my 6MT car twice in 4th, and once in 5th. the 5th gear dyno actually pulled 3 more horses than the 4th gear pull.

$35-40 for 3 pulls

JohnnyCham: the only reason why I said that the numbers in 3rd might look better than in 4th is based on the info in this thread. I've read about similar outcomes in other threads, but unfortunately I don't have them bookmarked. 3 more horses are an absolutely normal deviation even if you dyno in the same gear...
