I would go along with what the others are saying and get a good lawyer. His fees might seem a little expensive, but he will save you in the long run. Plus he may be able to represent you so you don't have to go to court if it will be a big inconvience. (Either by reducing it, in the terms of faulty equipment, etc.) It will also depend on your prior tickets and how long it has been. If you have had nothing in the past 3 years, then you should be able to use a Prayer for Judgement. Just some thoughts. But I would also say to slow down. If you give me a couple of more years I could
possibly help you out, but i am not quite out of law school yet.

And as far as the cops situation goes, something said were out of line. But I have personally been wrongfully charged with a dumb crime of breaking and entering (long story, I was there for just a party and never step foot in the house b/c the house was not closed on by the parents, that was happening in a week later), just b/c a young cop didn't know what to charge any of us. Now everytime I apply for anything I have to explain that. Needless to say I have a letter from a District Attorney saying that it was wrong. and that Cop no longer works in that department. I feel sometimes Police should take at least a year of law school, especially criminal law, just to understand everything they are charging. Sorry for my 2 cents.

Get a good lawyer and hope the judge hearing the case doesn't read this forum where you confessed to doing 140. Also, don't blame the cop for giving you the ticket. He was only doing his job. It really steams me when people get high-speed tickets and then act like it's the cop's fault they got cited. You're lucky he didn't drag your sorry a$$ to jail. And as for Mr. Wong, hopefully he will mature a little one day and repect law enforcement officers for the necessary and dangerous jobs they do.

Its' all at the discretion of the officer. In most states, there is a threshold that if you exceed, they can take you to Jail, OR slap you with wreckless driving (worse than any speeding ticket). BUT, if the officer doesn't expicitly do so, it's no different than any other speeding ticket. They can't add charges once you get to court. Go fight it. The worst that will happen is that you end up paying the 31+ mph fee, which is probably $200-300 and 5-6 points on your license.

The fact you were doing 140 on public roads with other traffic means that you WERE being unsafe, and you're going to get slammed in your insurance bill, as well as with the ticket. I'm all for sports cars, but, dude, go to the track or be safe.

Do you realize that you were doing 60 mph MORE than the traffic on the road? That's like driving 60 in a parking lot... except you'd be much more likely to kill others in the oncoming lanes than in a parking lot!

I'd wish you luck, but really, I'm just scared to have people like you on the road.

I got pulled over on a bogus speeding charge the other week, and sure, I was pissed at the cop (I was going 40 in a 35, he allegedly clocked me at 48, and my Valentine didn't so much as beep, he ended up not writing me a ticket). But I didn't think of "shooting the pig." Come on - this kind of crap is why young men have a terrible reputation and high insurance!

basically It's already done so I can't say OMG I'm sorry I was going that fast. I am but it's not like I do this everyday but now because of this stupid act I have to pay I understand that. As for the ticket it says only "excedding 100mph" and thats it. It doesn't say wreckless endangerment or anything like that and the car I was slowing down for was waaaaaaaaaay far ahead of me I saw the cop car before I saw the other car but It had no lights on so I got to like 70-80 by the time I passed the officer. so I don't know what else to worry about.

I've gotten a 61 in a 35 before (excess of 26mph). $350 fine, took traffic school, never had to appear in court, insurance never heard about it, end of story =)

I'm sure your ticket will be around $400. Take traffic school if they let you. However, since you were on the highway things could be different.

The only excuse you have for making such an ahole of a comment is that you're only 17 and you dont know better or that you're mentally stunted and dont know what you're typing!!! Any other reason than those and you're just a plain idiot.

Do you respect your trashman? You should, because he's exposed to dangerous bio-hazardous materials everyday.

Patrick, it is very unfortunate you think that way, I have had problems with the odd policemen, BUT that does not mean I hate all Policemen. I feel very sorry for you and I sincerely hope you can get your feelings straightened around, otherwise I do not believe you will have a pleasant existence on this good earth.

Good luck patrickwong, you are REALLY going to need it.

Get a good lawyer. But fact of the matter is, don't do the crime if you can't do the time. I consider myself lucky if I only get 1 ticket a year. (hey, cops out there. you didn't read that!! )
As for patrickwong, he's probably just a gangsta wannabe, so pay him no mind.

Don't Police Officiers carry 45mm's now?? I know patrol cars have M16's and Shotguns but I wasn't sure if the sidearm changed too. Lol i was out at Point Reyes and the Park Ranger had a M16 and Shotgun thought it was a little excessive but hey you never know when a terrorist might attack a park. Anyways although police can be a pain they're very ncie to have when something bad is happening to you!

Rudeboy seems like you have some planning to do... everyone has mentioned it, but it maybe good to get a lawyer. Before you do that, I would recommend that you check the vehicle code listed on your citation for more information. You can go to the DMV Web site and check the CA vehicle code online... Also try to find out more information on such tickets in the county in which you were cited, that makes a huge difference... i.e. I received a ticket for going 80 in a 60 in Santa Barbara county, but if the cop wrote down 81 it would be a 2 point ticket because anything over 20 is considered reckless... in LA County that is not the case exactly... so it maybe different. Also since you were going over 100... you will not have the option to go to traffic school, you will probably have your license suspended for at least a month, and you will be fined (depending on which section you were cited under) over $500.

I received a ticket in San Jose for going 104 in a 65 and was fined $500 and two points (which nearly tripled my insurance and was on my record for 7 years) but got lucky because the cop only cited me for section a of the code regarding reckless driving which isn't as strict...anyway... good luck..
