getting ripped by scammer on this site , help ?
Him not helping with the shipping cost is beside the point. You guys ultimately agreed on a price. If you didn't want to take the hit on shipping, then you shouldn't have agreed to that price.
But yes, I do see your point. He asked you to buy the item, but at the same time, you were also interested in selling the item. In this case I do agree that some of the responsibility could potentially be shifted off the seller, but unless he told you exactly how he wanted it shipped, I can't help but to revert back to my opinion that it's the sellers responsibility to deliver the item. Just my opinion though.
I don't want to speculate as to who's right and who's wrong here, because in reality none of us know. Have you been in communication with him since he filed the dispute?

Well this happened to me before with detailing products. I never received the item and told the guy and he showed me the shipping receipts. I still never received the product. It was only $40, so I didn't care too much and never disputed it, but realistically if you're shipping anything over $100 you should have a signature required.
Stuff gets stolen or lost in the mail, it happens. In the last year I lost an iPhone by brother sent me from Florida through USPS, someone opened the package and took the phone out, all I got was an empty box that had been taped up with their "received damaged" tape.
But yeah, I never ship anything I'm selling without at least putting delivery confirmation on it.
I'm surprised Paypal is so for buyers now. I bought a loptop from a seller on eBay years back and never received it, yet they sided with the seller and I lost about $1,200. That was the last laptop or any big item I bought on eBay from a private seller.

How was it shipped via usps? If you sent it parcel post you are screwed as they do not track that. I once bought something from a seller and he sent it parcel post, I waited 4 weeks and it never showed up I then filed a dispute because he was acting shady at this point. Believe it or not it showed up a few days later. And it was post marked exactly when he shipped it. I obviously dropped the dispute but it took over a month to finally receive my package. When you ship something priority it has free delivery confirm if you do it online, just FYI.
they have info of when its dropped off and processed at the facility
speaking as a vendor here one who ships everyday, I would never expect a customer to handle anything about the shipping, they paid, they wait for package, that's thier responsibility, I accept the payment, package up the items, and ship them the item, I mandate signature, for this very reason, as a seller, your obligation is to handle all things when it's not shipped, or received, the customer paying for it, does not bear any of that responsibility, taking it on here really wasn't the proper course, have you talked to the person before or after you posted this? while they filing a claim against you was not the correct action either, it's ultimately your responsiblity for locating and getting the package back, or delivered, good luck and report back with resolution if it's resolved.
OP, I understand that you don't want to absord the $150 hit... but why should the buyer? His sole responsibility was to pay you and wait for the package to arrive. The package never arrived; this is entirely out of his control. As such, he essentially is asking you for a refund. I believe this is fair from his standpoint.
The only person who would have been able to ensure that he package got delivered accordingly is you - by purchasing either insurance or a trackable package.
