Buying an 03 G35 Coupe. Should I get auto or manual?

I'm new here this is my first post. Anyways, I've been looking around for a nice sporty car and decided the G35 is the one I want. Beautiful car.

I just don't know whether to get a stick or automatic. I'm only 18 and my previous car was an 04 civic coupe lx auto. I sold it because it was a basic car and really slow. I think I'm leaning towards automatic just because idk how to drive a stick. I've never really tried other than when I was 14 I tried driving my mom's saturn ion. I kept stalling the car couldn't get it to take off.. but when it was moving i was shifting up the gears with ease. I've had this phobia with sticks ever since that one day.

But this is 4 years later and back then I never even drove a car before. I'm also a fast learner with anything when I put my mind to it.. I just don't want to get an automatic and regret it. I know I will want to race the g35 around here and there, and I know most guys dont respect men who drive autos.

My dad has an 04 MT G35 coupe and he's a big car person, I'm sure he could teach me. My older brother is also big on cars.

I often fear trying trying something new but once I get it down I master it and end up laughing at how lame I was for not wanting to do it. This could be the case if I get a stick.

What do you think? (btw I live in vegas. lots of traffic.)

well, learning to drive a stick, is always an adventure, and you are bound to mess up the first one, so I don't know if that's the way you want to go, I will say this, Manual is the most fun to drive, but traffic and other things cause headaches lol
i personally think everyone should know how to drive a stick, but not everyone should drive a stick lol
good luck with purchase, I would get a stick, but that's just me

+1. I'd go stick though the G35C is one of the tougher cars to learn on. The clutch is heavy and has a very narrow engagement point compared to most cars. The G is infinitely more fun with manual though because it's heavy and feels quite slow in auto.

I was in a similar situation when I bought my coupe. I knew the basics of driving stick, but never owned a manual car. I ended up test driving both and wound up buying the stick. Don't regret it one bit.

I've only driven a few manual cars before, but out of all of them, I will agree the that G35 was one of the more difficult ones to learn on. I wouldn't let that deter you though. Took me a month or two to learn but I got the hang of it eventually.

If you constantly drive in stop and go traffic though, I would personally probably lean towards automatic.

I always told myself I never wanted to learn to drive a stick because I was afraid to try also. Then when I was 21 I bought a Porsche Boxster and I'd be damned if I was gonna get an automatic Porsche. So I learned in order to have that car. And now when I looked for my G I felt the same way. So I got an MT. If you're ever in the market for a sporty car you gotta ask yourself a question.

Do you want to relax while you're driving or have fun while driving?

Its not hard to learn stick. You're probably going to want more out of the car and If you've got the money to replace the clutch in the near future then go with the manual. Depending on what year model your looking at, there isn't a MAJOR difference between the two performance wise.

I'd trade my 6mt for an auto any day haha. Have to commute through traffic a lot. Traffic not an issue? 6mt all the way

I appreciate your answers. I'll be looking for a 6 speed G.

I'll have no choice but to learn after spending 15 grand lol.

Definitely do 6mt, especially if you're questioning yourself. You don't want to regret buying your car after you get bored/tired of automatic.

As the driver of an auto with paddle shifters, I would advise you to....go with the manual. Especially if you're the only driver. I love my car and it works for me (my wife has to drive it sometimes) but even though I commute a fair distance each day, I'd prefer the MT.

Yeah 6mt is the way to go with the coupes...I took a test drive with both MT/AT ..and I love the 6mt compared to the AT ...the AT just feels like a faster civic IMO.. don't let ur fears interfere your gears...LOL!
