My DYNO run 1.12.05

Hello All,
My 1st installment of my dyno experiences. Hopefully the resolution on my scan will let you see all the details. My car is a 2003 G35 Auto Coupe with 16K miles. I have a popcharger+, z-tube, a mini-nitrous hook-up & stock exhaust. I've talked about these add-ons in other threads if your interested. Click on my name and click on threads I've started for more info. I'm using these pulls as my baseline for the following upgrades next week. Cat delete pipes & a new y-pipe. Also wanted to check out any gains from my mini-nos system, if any. Also from the extra air duct I installed to help get more fresh/cool air to my pop charger.

January 12th: Greensboro, NC
Dynojet 224x**Conditions: 65 dgrees, 29.56in-Hg, Humidity 64%, SAE 0.99

11am appointment: set-up, strap down, plug in.

1st run: Hood up, fans blowing, let 'er rip in 4th gear.
Max HP: 227.00
Max TQ: 216.17

2nd run: Hood down, fans blowing, let 'er rip. (1 fan into my air-duct)
Max HP:230.16
Max TQ:223.66

3rd run: Hood down, fans blowing, let 'er rip. (hit nos at 92mph)
Max HP: 231.74
Max TQ: 229.64

Notes:
1st & 2nd runs pretty close. The hp on the 2nd run when layed on top of the 1st run shows a slight hp(3-5hp) increase across the entire range. But still very close.

Now the third run shows some higher gains, over the 2nd run, across the entire run(starting at 92mph). Looks like 5-6hp in the meat of the chart & definite TQ increases. Also if you look on the a/f chart on the 3rd run, at 92mph you'll see the air bump up alittle, that's the nos kicking in.

The owner of the dyno gave me some interesting info/help.
- the sketchiness at the end of the rpm's is from the spark plugs.
(no flames please) He said the platnium plugs aren't that great up there(rpm). He recommended better plugs. (Iridium) He said all the turbo's and supercharged car use them because they're better at the top rpm.
(His words not mine) ("except those supra's"- he added)

Conclusions:
I'm pretty happy with the results. Still excited(1st time dyno).

- hp & tq was where I expected it. (happy w/ nos bump-only 50bucks)
-a/f range was pretty good.
-didn't come crashing off the dyno.

Follow-up:
Next week I'm installing cat-delete pipes & a pretty y-pipe. Also on his advice I'm going to change my plugs and see what happens.
Then back to the Dyno for 3 more pulls!!!

I'll report a new thread when I've finished my updates.

-JIM

I'm really surprised that your air duct worked as well as it did. I think I should rig something like that up.

Where did you get the duct again (the clear part)?

on, where else....................eBay (under "nascar duct")
Ya, I wasn't sure what the results would be. (As well as many members here) But I'll take it. I think its probably a wash in terms of gain & losses. But I love the pop/ztube sound!!

Also I forgot to mention I'm adding a underdrive crank pulley.
Also I purchased exhaust wrap for my intake & new exhaust add-ons.
I'm hoping the wrap will help with some on the added unwanted sound the cat deletes can add. kind of like wrapin a tuba up. It'll decrease the reverb, effect some(?)

nice work, nice info... What is the air duct suppose to do?? Is it suppose to create more of a ram air effect?? Im guessing i dont need it because i have a cai and when i drive air is directly blowing on the filter already...

ya,
A little extra air, without risking water intake.

I had my G35 dyno'ed on the January 9th
65 deg F, 70%, 30"Hg, humidity SAE correction 97%.
I did 5 runs (running 1 steo colder iridium plugs) the averages for each set of runs is;
2 stock except fo a Z-tube -- HP=235, Torque=229
2 with a kinetix plenum and Z-tube-- HP=244, Torque=235
1 with a 100 shot N2O -- HP=316, Torque=354
(Venom dry system)

nice numbers
nice to see some comparable numbers to mines. 232hp/222tq
it just assures me about my baselines before i start modding.

Wow. Looks like no real differences in the A/F ratio with the plenum (and no NO2). And you didn't give the ECU time to adapt, correct? (Though I'm not sure how much the ECU would indeed adapt.)

actually I took it on a quick 50 mile trip after installing the plenum to help it adapt (I'm not entirely convinced the trip was necessary, but better safe than sorry).
