Bose Radio

I agree with many other posts I have seen that the Bose sound system is merely adequate at best. This is very disappointing.
Questions:
1). I finally saw an Infiniti brochure and it indicates that the Bose on the Coupe has "DSP." This is news to me. If it does have DSP functions, what does the DSP do and how do you access it?. I saw no mention of it in the Manual. Interestingly, the brochure specifically did not list DSP relative to the sedan Bose system?.
2). Rattle - I have noticed a rattle or vibration with certain bass notes. Seems to be coming from the back - I have not been able to isolate to the rear deck speakers or side speakers. Anybody, have similar problem? What was the fix?

Re: Bose Radio

I'm not really a big fan of it. The only music is sounds semi-decent with is breakbeats but without any voices...once vocals get thrown in, it all goes down the crapper.

Re: Bose Radio

Try some Drum & Bass or Electronica. They seem to sound ok on mine. I admit though that I'm disappointed with the quality though.

Re: Bose Radio

DSP is (D)igital (S)ignal (P)rocessing. I have never heard mention of it in this system. Typically DSP is used to enhance the sound by adding after FX to the signal output. These FX can be used in all sorts of ways to enhance the sound. It can used to make the sound stage sound bigger or like increased dimmensions. It can also be used to EQ the differant frequencies create more realistic sound. There are tons of cool things modern DSP can do to the sound to alter the enviroment in which it plays. Unfortunately I haven't heard what type of DSP is being used on this system so it's hard to say.

Re: Bose Radio

I thought DSP was what brings up the call signals and distinguishes the types of music the station plays. Thats how you can search for just classical stations and what not.

I think the Bose system is great.

Re: Bose Radio

You're thinking of RDS (Radio Data Service). DSP (Digital Signal Processing) is used to enhance the sound quality in some fashion.

Our cars are just full of TLA's!

Re: Bose Radio

Thanks for all of the replys.
Let me say that I already knew what DSP is. That is why I am questioning if this Bose system has it? I was looking at the Infiniti 2003 Brochure which has all of their cars. The Brochure details each of the Infiniti models Bose systems' individually and lists features, # if watts, and # of speakers, etc. However, only specifically in the case of the the G35 Coupe the Brochure additionally lists DSP as a feature of the Bose system.! It is not shown for any other model. Is this a typo or does the system actually have DSP? That is my question. I think it is a typo. Of course, if it does have DSP, how to you access it?.
I also read the Edmunds reveiw that someone mentioned. It did not address DSP. However, they thought the system was top notch, so their judgement is suspect in my opinion.
One thing I have noticed is that the Bose system sounds a lot better when stopped wtih the engine off. This car tends to have a lot of engine and road noise when driving, and I think that negatively impacts the sound. So maybe Edmunds did not evaluate it while driving.
Anyway, I am still wondering about the DSP!!!

Re: Bose Radio

I think you make a really good point about people judging the system with the engine on vs. off. That may explain why some people think it sounds amazing while others hate it. The engine noise deifnitely does muddy up the sound a bit, but hey that's the price you pay for that visceral VQ powa!!!!

Re: Bose Radio

the stock system sounds great. and its only 160 watts. This is a very nice clarion dash unit
Note: I have the stock system without the 2 bose 6x9's+80w amp in the back

Also Note: my primary car has a custom built 1200 watt system, with 11 speakers overall inside. So let me tell you this. The stock system on the G is awesome!
