AC System Failure?

2003 G35
48xxx miles

Recently my AC system started to go out, when I set it to 60, it only blows ambient air temp air. Thinking it needed a recharge, I went to WalMart and picked up an EZChill AC recharge can (18oz) and hooked it up following the proper instructions as per the can. Before proceeding to refill I checked the gauge and it reads 75psi!! So needless to say I didn't use the can.

My question is this: is there something I'm not doing right? Or could this be a compressor failure? Or some other part in the system?

Thanks in advance!

are you sure you read the gauge correctly? i think stock is suppose to be around 30-35psi.

Yes, the stock at temperatures between 75-85F should be around 35. But when I hooked up the gauge it shot up to 75psi. I'm not reading it wrong, I have a picture to show the needle at 75. I'm thinking that the compressor or something is bad, but I don't know why the pressure would be so high on it..

did you check to see if the ac clutch is actually engaging when you turn on the ac?

have you checked the condensor to make sure there is no air flow blockages?

No I didn't check that, I'm going to do that today since I had obligations last night.

How do I tell if the clutch is engaging?

Did you connected it to high pressure line or low pressure line?

you should see the hub connecting to the pulley when you turn on the ac and disconnect from the pulley when its off so the hub is free spinning from the pulley.

What do you mean by hub? I want to make sure we're looking at the same part.

So today, after going to the gym the AC started blowing cold. But when I hit the interstate it started blowing warm. It seems like it only blows cold at low speeds, and sporadically at best.

Any thoughts??
