G35 oil dipstick reads L

Hey guys oil stick read my oil level low. I just change the oil 2 months ago and i have driven 1250miles. My 03 engine blew up so i had to replace. I got in my 03 a 06 vqde35 off a coupe auto tranny. auto Gs didnt come with rev up engines so how come is consumimg so much oil i believe i just consume 1 quart per 1k miles.. No oil leaks btw.. And my question is it safe to just add a quart of oil. Or should i change the whole oil off the engine and pour 5quarts back?. TIA

I would check and add until it comes time to change it. 1 quart per 1k for a non-revup seems like a lot. Mine will maybe burn 3/4 to 1 quart every 5k. Maybe try another brand of oil.

Honestly to me it depends on the oil. Mobil 1 synthetic burns like that in my 06 g35 non revup but when I use Castrol Edge, it only burns 3/4 to 1 at in 5K miles.

So there's no signs of oil seeping from valve covers, or any seals? Just because you look under the car doesn't mean there isn't seeping. I'd put it on a lift and take off the plastic undercover off.

Also I use a synthetic blend in my 5AT.

Honestly I don't use Mobil 1 5w-30 anymore. I've done a lot of research and the favorite on this forum and for your G's and Z's is the German Castron 0w-30. For me that's hard to find, but looking at the numbers it performs more like a 40 weight oil. Apparently, not all 5w-30's are the same. Now I use the 0w-40 from Mobil 1 and it lasts a lot longer. I think it will also depend on the miles you have on your car as well. From what I've read, when a car gets older and starts to rack up miles, its not a bad idea to use a thicker oil. Just pay attention to the second number in the formula. The first number has more to do with start up temperature and the second number has more to do with operating temperature. This is my reason for going with the 0w-40. It starts out less viscous (0w) so it can get into the engine quicker at start-up and stays a little thicker(40) once at operating temperature. Hopefully you are checking your oil on a level surface completely cold. That's the only way to get an accurate reading on our cars. Hope that helps.

I have a nonrevup engine and it burns 1 quart every 1k miles too. I use mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic though. No leaks anywhere, well except the valve cover at cylinder 6

German Castrol 0W-30... no oil burn at all on my '04. Been using it for nearly the entire life of the car, which is actually only about 45K miles so far.

German Castrol is thicker than comparable 5W30 oils... I believe most oil-tech specialists say it actually is somewhere between a 30 and a 40 weight oil when warm, so this should help minimize oil burning.

Michaeh90, there's nothing wrong with Mobil 1! I put 125K miles on my last Z using Mobil 1 and WIX filters and it's still on the street without issues....that was 8 years ago. Everyone has a favorite synthetic they believe in, my oil comparison chart says AMSOIL10W30 contains the least amount of contaminates after 1K miles....that's what/why I use it! German Castrol is good stuff but whatever you choose check the dip stick at least twice a week....Gary

The VQ has some secret oil compartments it just has too. Mine starting burning oil when I switched my oil to another brand. Its not uncommon for that to happen. Though it is still burning but it should slow down after a few changes.

But year its loosing oil and no idea where its going either.

So that you know in the future.... you're supposed to check your oil level when the car is warm. Let the motor reach full operating temperature, then shut it off and let it sit for about 5 minutes so all of the oil in the motor drips back down into the sump and then check it.

Also keep in mind that the lowest reading on the L side could indicate 2 quarts low. Best way to check is on the next oil change add 4 quarts and see where you are on the dipstick.
