Shift plate instead of shift boot?

Apologizes if this has been covered already; I searched through the forums and couldn't find anything on it.

But has anyone ever tried replacing the shift boot with a shift plate, much like the ones found in exotic cars such as the R8 or Murcielago?

Here's a picture of what I mean. Would it be possible in our cars?

That's a pretty interesting idea.

I feel like our shifters are too short of a throw for slots like that to work well. Don't think it'll look right.

G35? Short throw?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahaha.

The S2K and Evo shifters make me feel like i'm thrusting my arm from Jupiter to Pluto every time I shift my G.

The G35 is by no means short.

Anyway, that seems like an interesting idea. You'd probably need to get the plate custom made though.

I agree...but then again I have a short shifter, and I've never used/seen in person another G's shifter.

Compared to my old 240SX, G20, 03 Maxima, and wife's old Integra (before adding short-shifters), the OEM G35 shifter is reasonably short. Those cars were like rowing boats in comparison. Haven't driven an S2k or Evo, so it's all about perspective I guess...

Compared to my buddy's jeep wrangler and my dads Ford F-250, the G has a short shifter haha

I have no reference point for that.

i busted my knuckles on my dash of my G after driving my 87 S10 for about 2 months. the G shifter is pretty short in comparison to a majority of the cars out there.

i have a buddy that can do some CNC stuff like that, i'll bring it up to him.

I heard mustangs had LONG throws, but about the metal plate, those seem cool and might look really good the same color of the aluminum trim. I def would buy one or at least be interested

Cool idea but you'd need to have one made to match our shift points which my be cost prohibitive....Gary
