05 G35 stock Vs 2012 GTI stock
My friend has a new GTI that he just finished breaking in so I thought I'd give him a run. I have 05 6mt stock VDC on, he has 2012 GTI auto stock. First run started from 40 I started in 3rd and he jumped a car length with the quickness as we gained speed I started to close the gap but we shut it down closing in on 90+MPH. Then we ran into a light so I had a second chance. I had a decent start (too much clutch, no spin) and watched him jump close to 2 car lengths on me by my 2nd gear, as I got into 3rd I started catching up but with cars up ahead I was running out of road. I managed to get into 4th and catch his rear bumper before shutting it down.
Gotta give him credit that car dips, he does have a cheater 6 speed dual clutch automatic transmission with launch control.... That being said winning is winning and I definitely lost. I will hopefully get a rematch, maybe rolling in 2nd at high rpm I'd show him whats up. I didnt switch off VDC so I have to experiment a little and learn my car a little bit better. Either way it was fun, I'll keep you posted if I get the rematch.

Interesting.... must be the gearing that they use in the GTI and the responsiveness of the turbo. It's not a super-light car for the size (3115 lb's according to edmunds.com) and it's down about 70 HP to you. I wish there was an easy way to shave a good 200 pounds off of a G35 without gutting the interior.

I agree that 3rd is the wrong gear to start in for an all out race from 40. A 6MT is at around 4200 RPM in 2nd at 40 MPH, or right at 3000 in 3rd. You definitely get more power at 4200 RPM, particularly with a Rev-Up motor. You could probably go 40 to about 65 MPH in 2nd, and then bang into 3rd for the remainder of the race which would take you over 90 MPH.
