There is a thread somewhere on the forum in DIY section. One enthusiast actually bought 4 or 5 different top brand intakes; took his car to the dyno and tested HP output with different intakes.

Guess what, stock did the best accept for some other intake which showed no gain over the stock. The rest of the cold air intakes reduced the amount of HP.

The explanation to that was that there is a sensor which is getting readings of amounts or temperature of air that gets in and with aftermarket intakes it just gets confused. Unless u plan tweaking that thing as well all you get for the buck is just a nicer sound from under the hood. IMHO spend your money on something more useful.

Thread is HERE

Performance gains are negligible as mentioned already but the sound of the stillen high flow with kn filter and a z tube is makes it worthwhile. Makes the stock sound very distinctive and authoritative. Only thing that made my car sound better was the addition of a spacer (5/16ths motordyne).

I love the way it sounds now- but I'm not a fan of what it took to get here! A little more involved than dropping in a filter- that's for sure.

K&N drop in filters work fine if you'll read the instructions when using there cleaning kit. Those individuals that don't like em either install them wet or over oil when installing causing issues. I had two K&N cone filters in my '92 TT 300ZX, cleaned the filters every 10K miles without issues....but followed the instructions to the letter. At the end of 125K miles I still had zero issues when I sold her!

Ok so what i did for my intake was, i completely took off the stock intake, cleaned my MAF sensor, bought a intake adapter, connected it to the old intake, bought a intake cone and connected that, alot easier and much more room, connected the cone to the side with zip ties for now but ill upload a pic later to show u what i mean, is this ok or will this effect the car ? good/bad? thanks.

I know exactly what you did lol I did the same thing. Ghetto as ****. Put your stock intake back on with a k&n drop in filter.

lol works like a charm! the adapter is fit tight on, alot more room, but will this cause any loss in performance or anything? im not sure why people havent tried it this way, instead of buying those 200$ intakes, this **** was sooooooo much more cost effective and havent had any issues since i installed it, i reset my ECU manually in the car after i installed it just to make sure it learns the new intake air flow etc....

Cause your heat soak alone is going to be horrible which will result in loss of power. I went through the same thing bro. Thought that was a great alternative. Then I bought my stillen intake and noticed a huge difference. Your stock intake with a drop in filter is better then that.

IMO Clean air > 1-2hp. I'll use a WIX filter over a K&N type filter any day. My choice of WIX is based on opinions from engine builders for UMP dirt late model engines (read as: people who want to keep dirt out of engine)

I know the argument against this is--well nobody drives their car on a dirt track.

We also don't change our oil/air filter after every time we drive our car.

just my $0.02
