BCM/ECU Weirdness...Help?
Hey guys,
So, backstory. I've had test pipes on my '04 G Coupe for about a year now, and they did trigger a SES light. So today, I installed some anti-foulers, and attempted to clear the codes with a universal Actron scanner (the orange kind you can buy at AutoZone). Here's where things get odd.
After I cleared the codes, the SES light went away (of course). I started the car, and noticed the VDC Off, Slip, and Brake lights were on. But the car was running fine. So, I cut the motor off, let it sit for about a minute, and when I went to restart the car, the starter would turn over one time, bog, and then start clicking, as if the battery had dropped its charge. So I went ahead and cleaned off the terminals, put a jump box on it, and tried again. Same result. Finally, after about five minutes, the car turned over and started fine. No more VDC/Slip/Brake lights.
So this time, with the car running, I checked the monitors with the scanner. This is where things get weird. Once the scanner pulled the monitors up, the tach dropped to zero, and the VDC/Slip/Brake lights came BACK on. At first, I thought the car had stalled for some reason, but I hopped out, and it was still idling. I could even rev it up and drive it around. So I shut it off again, and this time, upon an attempted restart, the car started, chugged, and died. A second attempt at starting caused the car to turn over, but apparently get no spark, as the car wouldn't start.
I let the car sit for five more minutes, and it turned over as though nothing was wrong. VDC/Slip/Brake lights were gone.
I guess my question is, when you clear the codes with a universal scanner, outside of resetting monitors/ECU, does it mess with the BCM or the vehicle anti-theft system? I've never experienced anything like this before on any other car. Or any other Nissan I've owned, for that matter. And this is the first time I've ever had any issues with the VDC/Slip/Brake lights coming on.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!
