escort solo s2 cordless

Hey guys...I just bought the escort solo s2 today. I was contemplating between the escort 8500 x50 and the cordless, but I didn't want the wires in the way and go through the whole hard wire process...other than that...what have you guys heard of the escort solo s2???

Thanks

I have had mine for 8 months. It has worked very well. It has saved me from the POP radar used in my area. I did get nailed by laser....the cop told me that he looks for the HID headlamps because they are usually on performance cars. The detector went off letting me know I was busted.

A friend of mine as a V1 and likes it but he has to contend with running the wires up to the unit. He likes the bogey counter but remember the Solo 2 has a setting, which I use, that allows the number of each band to be displayed by little bars next to the type of band being picked up. The only thing that the Solo2 doesn' have is the arrows.

Not really a contest...
Wireless radar detectors just do not have the range that most wired ones have. If you're really concern about the hanging wire of the 8500x50, get the hardwire kit and install it like I did.

Speedoholic wrote a great DIY for the Escort, which I did as well.

Should take no more than... 15min if you know what you're doing. If you need help, feel free to PM me.

i agree. after studying electronics in college, i found that using a hard-wired power source is 10 times more reliable than a battery source. i would expect to see a significant drop in range & performance when the batteries begin to lose juice. unless you plan on replacing your batteries every 8 or so hours of use on the escort (with e2 titanium energizers) i would go with the x50. i did.

the harwdire kit is $20-30. It's the remote display with hardwire. I got mine directly from Escort when I ordered the 8500x50 from them.

When I got my Solo2, I was told it had slightly less range than the 8500 because of the batteries vs power cord power issue. Now they have the 8500 X50 which is supposed to be even better than the old 8500. However, since I got my Solo2 second hand off of a friend for $120 (vs $329 new), it was a no brainer. If I was to buy a new radar detector.....then it would be a different story.

j12: As far as the question about the HID lamps, the cop said that he looks for those types of headlights at night when clocking for speeders. They are bluer and distinct compared to other headlamps on cars. His point was that if a car has HID's, they are usually on performance cars and are usually going faster than other fars. Think of it as 'Profiling By Headlamps'.

They also have just the wire for $10. The SmartCord (the one I have) is quite handy, especially for having the mute button which you can place in a convenient place.
