Sputtering after short block swap
Sputtering after short block swap
Now I have another problem. When I start the car it almost stalls out, but will go to normal idle. Then when I give it gas in neutral or park, everything is fine. When I put it in drive or reverse and put the gas down, my car jerks forward and back and sputters. It'll do this a couple times and if I can catch it sputtering over 2k rpm I can drive normally. At highway speed everything is normal. It's just under 40mph or so I have to worry about this sputter. My CEL, slip, and vdc light are on. Haven't had a chance to get the code read.
Replaced the cam sensors but it didn't do a damn thing. Car still jerks around, sputters and the rpms go nuts. If I put it tiptronic, and shift perfectly, its fine. I'm thinking its a trans problem. There sounds like there's a squeaking coming from the trans. I reset the ecu with the foot peddle method too. Still didn't do anything.
no one? Here's a email i sent to someone asking about this issue, it might describe the problem better.
When I start the car, it starts perfectly fine, no issues at all. If the car is in Park or Neutral, I can rev the car fine without any issues.
I had my CEL, VDC, and SLIP lights come on, and after googling it (I didn't have a chance to take it to get the codes read) I found the most common issue with those lights are Cam sensors. So I bought Bank 1 and Bank 2 sensors and replaced them. After replacing them, I did the foot peddle method of resetting the CPU. I didn't reset the throttle position timing, or the other two they recommend, but I did do that BEFORE we replaced the sensors (just to see if that was the issue, but it didn't fix anything).
After replacing the sensors, I had the exact same symptoms. When the car is put into Reverse or Drive, and a normal amount of gas is applied, the car will jerk and the RPMs will go crazy, and I can't control it. I have to wait for the car to calm itself down before I can do anything. If I put a VERY small amount of pressure on the gas, and slowly slowly add more, then the car will be fine. If I put it into Tiptronic, and shift at the right moments, it's fine. It seems to be something with the automatic transmission not being able to get into the gears.. and I have no idea why. It was perfectly fine before. My friend said the best way to describe it is to compare it to a manual: "When you have a really bad shift, the car jerks forward and backward and it sounds like the engine is revving itself so that it doesn't stall out. And when it does stall out, it's because you took your foot off the gas".
