Hey guys,

I'm looking at doing some upgrades to my 04 coupe. I'm looking at going with forced induction, but instead of rebuilding, I'm leaning to buying a replacement engine. I'm worried that with my 166K mile original engine, it may cost more for labor and parts; especially, if more parts besides pistons and rods need to be replaced. Again, this leads me to a replacement engine instead.

I know of 3 places that sell long block engines: Importpartspro, Z1 motorsports, and GTM motorsports. Importpartspro has be best deal on long block engines. Z1 motorsports has longblock engines, but they are more expensive for some reason. GTM sells perfomance longblocks and some have turbos on them already. I like this option, but I'm looking to go with a supercharger instead. Does anyone know of any other places to get peformance engines for the G, and if possible, a peformance engine with an installed supercharger already on it?

Buying a new long block I'd want to buy it from a reputable company like Z1, not sure about the other company's you posted. Buying an engine like this is cool, you can detail it before install and even polish a few parts related to the super charger. (Vortech?)

Z1 is more expensive then GTM? I just went through their engines and I'm pretty sure Z1 is cheaper. As far as reputation goes, I haven't heard anything bad about Z1. GTM built my engine and I haven't had any problems.

 

Does Z1 do longblocks? I only see shortblocks on their website.

 

^They offer different head setups, so they can make a longblock. Thats what I was going off of regarding pricing.

 

My buddy got a long block from IPP, they build great motors and are reputable..

 

Thanks for the replies so far. I don't believe there are many choices for fully built performance engines to say the least. I may have to post another topic, but "Gary", I'm leaning towards the new supercharger kits from GTM. From what I understand, they recently developed a few GTM supercharger kits specificaly for the VQ35DE non and rev-up versions with 3 different packages: 500Hp, 550Hp, 600Hp. Since I would be getting a built engine, I figured I go with a supercharger that puts out more power than the vortech. The GTM Turn-Key 500 seems like the choice that I'm leaning towards. It utilizes a rotrex supercharger and are known to be pretty quiet. I don't know too much about this system, but from the few things I've read, it seems to be good. If you have any advice on vortech or on this system from GTM, please let me know.

 

2 friends have bought built blocks from IPP and are very happy

 

I decided earlier this year that I will be going with IPP for my built motor. Just waiting on mine to either die or cross the 200k mark.

 

If I was replacing my engine I'd look into this but it's very pricey

 

I'd do some reading. A bunch of shops that had good reputations before aren't holding up their end of the bargain lately.

I haven't used any of these guys so I can't speak with authority on them but I'm seeing loads of info out there (don't give a **** what someone did 3 years ago- pay attention to what is going on now).

Who I am finding a very hard time reading anything bad about is Dynosty. Definitely worth a look if you're serious about this.

 

So far, most of you have been suggesting IPP. They have the cheapest long blocks I've seen so far and I haven't heard anything negative about them. I will check out Z1 again Gary, but I think IPP has them beat. ITNKICN, when you say that some shops are not holding up their end of the deal...what shops are you referring to? I've done my search, but like there isn't much that comes up when I do look for fully built engines. Seems that most people are going forced induction first, until the engine blows, then getting a new long/short block or rebuild. I'm already at 166K so I don't think its wise for me to go force induction first. I don't want to pay for labor twice. Thanks for the help.

 

^ Do a search in the FI section over on my350z for more feedback on off-the-shelf built motors. You'll find more feedback on Dynosty, GTM, IPP, Z1, etc. over there than you will here. DO NOT CREATE THIS SAME THREAD OVER THERE (I'm saving your life).

 

Smart man, that's exactly what I'm about to do right now. I only had 33k on my G when I added boost. Engine was DOA by 60k with only 5.5psi and 390whp. Now I'm wishing I had just forked out the money for a built block the first time. I may not even have a serviceable block for the core now
