Have the Mishimoto Universal oil cooler kit with thermostat for 3 yrs and counting and no issues. I also run the bigger oil filter meant for FX/M. Its my DD, ProCharged for 35k miles and counting.

The Mishimoto kit is designed to use the OEM filter. That being said most filters with M20 X 1.5 threads will work as long as the diameter of the filter is no greater than 67mm (Filter sealing surface of sandwich plate). Also if you plan to use a different filter consider the length and any obstructions that would prevent it from fitting.
