Crazy Sh*t Going Wrong w/ '05 6m/t coupe
OK long story short, i hit a huge bump at a high speed with the nose of the car taking most of the impact, suspension 2nd, exhaust 3rd. Immediately noticed huge exhaust leak, but nothing else really seemed wrong, even after an exterior examination.
Heres where **** gets weird...
on the way home on the highway, i accidentally shift from 4th to 3rd instead of 5th, and the next thing i know my power steering is gone. i also noticed at the time that my BATTERY and BRAKE lights were on. (potentially could have been from the bump, and those lights usually mean alternator) i also checked my PS reservoir 5 miles later and it was at perfect height.
Could the over-rev caused the pump to go out? i only saw the revvs go up to about 7,600.
Then the next day i was driving it to see what was wrong, and it died. Whenever it was in gear, the fuel would cut out. Then it wouldn't start, dead battery. I got it towed.
Äny ideas about the powersteering? and maybe how the alternator was damaged?

i dont know what the problem is exactly but sometimes when i drive my car hard (i also have coupe 6mt) My brake and battery light turn on and i loose my power steering at very high speeds. i usually have to some how get the the emergency lane and push on the brakes while slowly pulling my e-brake. i turn off my car and turn it on again after a few seconds and it starts to work perfectly.
did you check the accessory belt? if you hit something hard enough with the front of the car to generate an exhaust leak i would suspect that to be the least of your problems. start looking underneath the bumper and just work your way back. look for any type of debris, damage, or anything that looks out of the ordinary. If you broke the accessory belt you would lose power steering, and with no load on the alternator you wouldnt be keeping the battery charged so you could drive for a short while before the car dies. maybe it didnt break on impact, but the sudden over-revving going from 4th to 3rd could have been the final stress to snap the belt.
