Intake Question

usually, as most of you do, I let my car idle down in the mornings before i get to driving it usually a minute or two. Sometimes, i'm not in the mood, so i just take right off. My Z-Tube when the car is cold, is like 10times louder than it is when it's warm. Does anyone know why its so much louder? Is there anyway to make it that loud ALL the time??

nah its loud as crap even when it's 80 outside just for about the first 30 seconds of driving and i dont understand why, i dont get how the cold air makes it so much louder. does it have something to do with the density of cold air vs. hot/warm

It's probalby has something to do with the temperature of the engine components. Your exhaust will change as it heats up as well.

Most metallic musical instruments do this as well, that's why you see musicians warm up their instruments before tuning/playing them.

Yeh i dont think it has anything to do with the temperature of the Tube as it doesnt get that hot. Stupid question but what will happen if i unplug the MAF sensor, and do an ECU reset?

I could be wrong, but there has to be some kind of choking mechanism on the car, or else they would be a b1tch to start in the colder areas of the world. I would say it has to do with something like that. For ex: when I start up my 67 Nova, the intake noise from the carb is more prominent partially due to the choke being completely closed until the car warms up.

If I am way off Im sorry, I just got my G, I have been building muscle cars for the last 10 years and am much more knowledgeable with older V8 engines than the newer cars.

It is louder becuase the car is idling at a higher RPM until it warms up. You are hearing the extra RPM's, no need for alarm...

i avoid driving wide open throttle(WOT) for newbies, if the car is not "warmed up" no matter the air temp is. I like to wait until the oil has moved all over the engine, and the metal has warmed up. I get the same sound. Louder than normal. Never noticed this a any problem though.
