Cool Trans decision

Hey guys/girls I have a couple of questions to ask that I were not able to find after a couple of days or so of searching here and NICOclub. If they have been answered could you please direct me to the thread that has all of my answers please.

I have an 03 g35 coupe 6mt. I have the common problem from the 03-05 models of the 3rd and 5th syncros going out so here is my question. Would it be better for me to drop the trans and replace the syncros or replace it with a new trans? I was thinking dropping a new trans would be easier considering I don't know what I'm doing inside a trans. Which also leads to my next question. I have done some searching online for used trans and I have found some for reasonable prices around $1k for a trans with a year warranty. Would I have any issues dropping in an 07 trans into a 03 vq35? and If I would are they worth going through to keep the 07 trans? From what I have read some guys have said they didn't fix the syncro problem until the 06 trans. so I was thinking if I can drop an 06 or 07 trans in an 03 g35 I would spend the money to get one. I have also read that most parts from the 03 to 07 are interchangeable and they really didn't change much except the interior and brake systems but please correct me if I am wrong.

also one more thing to add can anyone give me a company that sells throw out(release) bearings that are worth while that i can buy without purchasing a clutch kit. please and thank you.

First step would be to find a recommended trans shop and find out the cost of rebuilding your trans. The results will be better with upgraded syncros. Don't forget a new throw out bearing! Stay with the OE clutch unless you plan on tracking your G....Gary

I would not be wasting time and money with a transmission rebuild shop. Now that is just a stupid idea and one that will end up costing you a lot more $$$$ in the long run. First only take advice from folks who own a manual G35 or 350z. Experience goes a long ways and learn from others mistake. It is very easy to spit out advice when you don't own a certain product and like to drop your 2 cents in to everything. The Cd009 transmission has these changes versus older revisions. CD009 has triple cone 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear syncro, 3rd gear baulk ring,5th gear baulk ring, and 5th gear. I highly doubt the transmission shop will replace all internal gears, synchro, gaskets and seals with all new parts. I would pick up a brand new cd009 transmission, fluid and parts needed.

Pay a mechanic like $500-$750 and have him to the labor. This might end up being slightly more than rebuild but everything is factory fresh with new revision parts and build exactly to spec. Not build by some random dude that works on america, korean, japanese and european transmission with no specific specialty. A guy who has no clue and just collecting a paycheck and slapping parts together to get you out the door.

Cd009 was used in late 2004 in 350z and middle of 2005 for G35. Here is my oem cd009 with 100k miles and came factory on my 2005 with 6/2005 build date. CD009 is a blessing and works like a charm everytime. Just keep up on fluid changes and you will be fine for a long time.

Hey man I had the EXACT same issue. 03 G35 and my 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th were starting to go. It was a complete mess. If you look around you can find some good deals on used trannys. I found an 2006 cd009 from a 350z for 900 bucks and according to the shop it had about 35,000 km's on it. Paid about 500 to get it swapped in and it works like a charm. I've only had it in for about 15,000kms now but no issues so far.
