Quote: I dont think it was fair to put the Viper in that comparo nor the 911S now the 911 would be more fair.

..............Nor the Corvette......

As ILLG35 said, there are only 4 cars remotely similar to the Z...... the Z-4, Slk, boxter, and S2000.

From what I can remember, and with the exception of the less known new SLK, the Z has beaten the boxter, S2000, and Z-4 on different days.

Why on earth would they have the 911S, Viper , and Vette in the same comparo??????

Not surprized about the assessment of low end vs. top end. R/T typically get the slowest times I've noticed. It will be interesting to see 0-30 0-50 etc, and perhaps a testing of the 05 G.

Without price, the Carrera dominated. Boxter got 2nd and Vette got 3rd. The Z got dead last.[/QUOTE]

Actually, they said the Boxster S would have been #1 if it wasn't for it's price.

That was probably an 04 or earlier Boxster. The 05 Boxster beats the 350Z and handling isn't even close.

I have that magazine right here in front of me. It is a comparo of the "Best all around SPORTS CAR".

They define sports car with the following:
1. Swoopy styling(low drag)
2. taut suspension(independent all around)
3. Sticky Tires
4. Manual Gearbox
5. TWO DOORS only
6. Rear or all drive
7. good exhaust note
8. USEFULL LUGGAGE SPACE
9. good hp:lb ratio
10. 2 seats (some 2+2's qualify hence the Z)
11. speedo, tach, etc.
12. HO Engine
13. Superior Brakes.

This comparo was as lame as the G35 vs RX-8 comparo, where normalisation on price resulted in an outlandish number of points for the 8, and R&T scored the RX8 as having better ride quality (the only publication ever to make such a claim), thus handing the 8 the win.
If you tally the points for opinions of the testers, it's hands down a Boxter S (emphasis on the S) win, but the wierd scoring used throws that idea in the trash. The original premise of the test was flawed (criteria for sports car- tell the Ferrari owner he doesn't have a sports car, based on their criteria) , the test track was skewed (take a look at how each car does in each section, and the overall result- you'd be hardpressed to find another track with such results, except perhaps in a parking lot). Finally, no appreciation for road use was really acknowledged (where 99% of these cars will spend 99% of the time). I'll take a Boxster S, please, since the M3 isn't a sports car.
