Salvaging my G...

So I've been off the boards forever however a VERY unfortunate event happened recently and just wanted to get some quick imput.

Cliff notes:
My car is totalled, insurance is paying me out pretty well, I'm salvaging my car.

Detailed:

About 2 weeks ago, some POS bug stalled in the middle of a 55mph lane, everyone hit the brakes. I was the last to and I hit a truck. (I'll post pics later). I swear I could not have been going more than 10-15mph, my mom was with me (it wasn't Mother's Day at least!) Went sliiiiightly under the truck, but it was enough to do some hefty damage. Mom n I are fine, we swear we barely felt anything, but when we got out... Driver of the truck was very cool, no damage to his vehicle we exchanged information and went from there.

(as I said, pics later)

Insurance is paying quite a bit but ruling my car as totalled just because of the total value of my 05. My car had just under 52,000 miles, but apparently 8 years is 8 years. Body shop says no frame damage nor anything significant, just parts, mainly to the front passenger side.

Once it's back from the body shop I'll post some pics, using the leftover insurance money for a BBK.

Just thought I'de get back on the boards since the mod bug has struck again with the insurance money

In the mean time, I've been researching the salvaging process in CA. It seems like I need to retitle the car as a salvage, get a CHP check on the car, and just let my insurance know I'd like to keep my insurance on the car going?

I love my G too much and I just couldn't let the insurance take her, body shop looks to be doing an awesome job on it too.

IMO you should be all good since the Bodyshop said No frame damage. Fix her up and have some fun with the leftover cash

Not sure how Cali works but in some states you can apply for a "rebuilt" title instead of "salvage" which will help on future re-sale value on the car. But if you've researched the process there you probably know if that's an option for you or not. GL with the repairs, hope she comes out as good as new.

Thanks everyone. Ya I'm just glad momma and I walked away without a scratch. Car should be done this Friday so I'll have the before and after pics up.

I don't think you ca get the 'rebuilt' title here unfortunately but I'll take a second look, thanks!

Yeah in CA its just salvage titles. Good Luck. Usually its just a brake and lights inspection they give you a lil permit to drive the car.

Cars ready for pickup tomorrow, will def post pics.

In the mean time any other info on registering your car as a salvage?

I'm going to call tomorrow to set up an appointment for the CHP inspection. Anyone know if you need a front plate? I may just tape on my front plate tomorrow for the inspection, or will they see right through that ghetto rig? It says brake and light inspection, nothing about front license plate or my tint...
