Why do people call the double din kit a 'JDM kit'?
From pictures I can see even the Skyline V35's had the same integrated (non double din) radio setup like we have in the G's. Or did they actually make some cars from the factory with a double din radio?
Can you actually get a factory OEM double din fascia with a/c controls?

You could be seeing skylines from other countries. It's called a skyline in Europe too. I believe the DD kit was only in the Japanese Domestic Market. Same with the clear corners.

I just found out it was some JDM models which had the double din.
All USDM and some JDM have the integrated unit. I'm thinking of throwing a single din in the cubby above the a/c controls for now.

Did you use Nissan fluid? I dunno why, but these trannies are super sensitive to non OEM fluid. I didn't believe it til I used no OEM stuff (used like Valvoline or something.. Can't remember, but it was decent quality). Tranny felt like garbage afterward tho.

I'm actually running Valvoline, seems very smooth to me but I've no experience with what OEM stuff runs like and I'm sure what was in there before was either non OEM or very old OEM

more radio questions:

I read that if the stereo is unplugged but the a/c controls are still connected, you still won't have control over the HVAC system. I also read that you can make the HVAC controls work by connecting your own +/- wires straight to the controls so you can use the stereo wires for whatever else.

When using the double din kit, how does the wiring work? Does any of the adapters supplied connect to the HVAC controls in some way?

EDIT: So basically, what needs to be left connected to have working HVAC controls? Because I've heard of dead stock stereos causing people to lose a/c controls which doesn't make sense.........

The stock stereo controls and AC are all wired together, so I can see that if the radio fails the AC may be on full blast; not certain tho. As far as jdm controls tho, you can definitely control them separately. I've had the jdm AC controls plugged in with no radio connected and been able to control the AC. The first stereo I purchased off the internet turned out to be a dud, so I drove around for a couple weeks working out the situation. Again, can't speak for the OE radio going out and taking the AC with it tho.

You should poke around in the Audio/Video subforum for that question.

Here's the short answer:
The Radio and HVAC buttons are all on the same circuit board with no easy way to simply "cut" the bottom half off to separate the two. The radio itself is standalone and connects to the buttons/control via a ribbon cable.

With a double din kit (either JDM or fugly Metra unit) the HVAC controls are self enclosed in a smaller module, ie no radio control integrated circuit board. You plug the HVAC controls into the HVAC harness, and you plug the stereo wiring into the stereo harness, and they're completely separate at that point.

This thread has pictures of why you need the JDM HVAC controller: https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-v...ontroller.html
