VDC/SLIP lights coming on

Hi all, as some of you know i was involved in an accident a couple months ago and just got my car back recently. Now i have to deal with all the small, annoying after effects . After i got my car back the airbag and brake indicators began flashing, but i had that repaired at the dealer just yesterday (something about a messed up coil).

Now heres the part that ticks me off: i get my car back today and the two old lights are gone but there are two new ones... (VDC OFF/SLIP). i tried pressing the vdc button but it seems its a problem with the indicator itself. or so it seemed. as soon as i drove out i heard a loud, wrenching sound coming from under the car (it feels HORRIBLE, its like my tranny just jammed or something. i did not scrape anything im sure). i know that the vdc system tests itself a few seconds once your on the road, so somethings up. after a few more startups later in the day, i found out that the rough, jamming sound occurs right when the vdc comes on (and the degree of the noise/jutter is always different). The VDC OFF/SLIP indicators dont come on until AFTER that happens. anyone know what this is? im taking it back to the dealer tomorrow to see whats up.

If the VDC OFF and Slip lights won't go away then you have a problem. Take it to the dealer.

I have experienced the same noise you mention last weekend when it snowed here in Jersey. It was probably the LSD working its magic, I won't worry about it. It was kinda scrary though since I have never heard that sound before, with my old E36 you only see the traction control light blinks, but not with that weird noise.
I guess it's a Nissan thing.

Lucino: im dropping off the car tomorrow, the problem scares me. its not just a noise, my whole car jerks and it feels like the tranny just jammed. i have to brake hard and it gradually goes away.

i only just received my g coupe recently... but i've been driving a fx45 for the time being. during our snowfalls here... i found the fx making those grinding noises (i'm assuming the same). i think it's the vdc kicking in adjusting the breaking on the wheels to correct for slip. the fx is the first suv i've driven that has made noises like that, so u may be right that it's a nissan thing. hope that helps.

When VDC detects understeer/oversteer, it cuts throttle and/or selectively applies the brakes to return the car to a straight-ahead position, as best it can. This is definitely not subtle, and can sound like grinding (accompanied by flashing of the VDC/Slip light and some clicking in the cabin) - I experienced it in the snow in my G 2 weeks ago. If this is happening on a dry road where your wheels aren't breaking traction, then something is definitely wrong with one or more of the wheel speed or yaw sensors, or the VDC control system itself. I see you have aftermarket wheels on the car, which can definitely confuse the VDC system if they're not the right diameter and size - did you experience this at all before the accident with those Volks on?

its much worse than you all might think. its not just a noise, it feels as if the front end/bottom of my car just fell apart. its not because of the volks, my car was perfectly fine until i asked the dealer to fix the previous 2 indicator lights. thats when this problem happened.

The grinding noise is perfectly normal when the VDC kicks in. It's the ABS pump kicking in to stop wheelspin, happened to me alot today in the snow. It sounds like you have a problem somewhere with the wheel sensors or maybe the VDC computer . They might have messed something up when fiddling with the car trying to fix the other problem. I would bring it in asap because you really don't want your VDC/ABS to be malfunctioning.

Hey Kyosho, I had the same problem the other day. My VDC OFF , SLIP and ABS lights went on. I thought if I turned off and restart it would go away but nope. Instead, when I turned the car back on it, I heard a big thud and I felt the brake pedal lose a little compression. I going to take it to the dealer as well. I have no idea.

Dammit, I feel like I'm missing something. My car has never made any noise or weird vibrations when the VDC was in action. But then again, I've never had it in snow like most of you guys are mentioning. However, something weird happened once... I had the VDC on and I was about to make a 180 degree turn and I decided to go all out and just yank the wheel to the left. Well I was going 30-35 max and the car understeered a lil and the SLIP light and VDC OFF light came on and stayed on until I restarted the car.

I have 20s on the car but I don't feel those have anything to do with it, b/c in all other VDC events (and trust me, I've had many lol) it was business as usual.
