Matte Black Goodness - Questions - Introduction

Hello, ive been a lurker on this forum for a while but never much of a poster. I finally got bored with my g35 a little & decided to add some character to it. I realize this might not be everyone's taste but I like the way it turned out. This is actually my daily driver and an autotrgic so it wont get much love besides some cosmetic changes. My real build is a 2.0L air/water turbo del sol project. That should be done by winter and shooting for 600whp

Im going to do the hood in matte black as well but the damn hinges are crap & my hood is rubbing on the fenders, just ordered new hinges today. I tried using wd40 and synthetic grease to loosen them but its a temp solution at best

Does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket headlights available online? I would love some 2006+ headlights but they all seem to end up right around $1000 which is a bit out of my budget build since this is just my DD. Just curious if they are actually decent or just ebay junk.

This is my first wrap for an actual car but ive worked with vinyl alot on interior projects, paintball stuff or pretty much anything anyone shipped me to wrap. I wont be doing anything too much with this car for now...just some small mods like oem 19"s, lowering it a tad, wheel spacers and such.

Don't get carried away with cheap mods. Matte black roof is solid. Hood and trunk...meh. But I wouldn't do any more than that. Every aftermarket light for the G looks horrible. EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!!!
GL on both projects.

The paint is super clean, it's an 04 with 60k on the clock but I was really bored with the stock look. I can remove it at any time, if anything it's helping protect the paint

Thanks man, I decided to keep it more oem and clean so going with stock 06+ projector headlights and only wrapping my hold roof and trunk. Going to snag some oem 19's and have them powder coated to match the car or a darker gunmetal. That will be about it, nothing too over the top but should look clean and have a little character

I know everyone has to mod their car like they want but I don't see why you're doing the flat black overlays over perfectly good paint? It will end up looking like Grandmas quilt! Aftermarket headlights are mostly trash, keep watching our Marketplace for a member selling his OE '06 projectors. I got mine a few years ago on eBay "new in the box" for just under $500. Watch eBay for deals too....Gary

^^already decided for oem projectors

Just mixing it up, stock paint scheme was boring me, wanted to add a little character. It's protecting the pair anyways.

Plus I do vinyl wrapping on the side and I'm starting to get into car wraps more as more so it helps to show my work

Nice wrapping, do you already have the 06 lights? If not just customize yours.... as far as the wrapping if you're going that route personally I would possibly do the whole car.

Thanks man! I just have the stock lights but I kinda like these over the 06 style. What kind of light customization are you referring to? Thanks bud! I'm gonna wrap my entire project car in matte blue and matte black once the body work is finished up

Thanks !

Snapped some pics the other day after giving her a quick rinse. I have some ebiach sportline springs and oem 19"s on their way in

Im waiting on my hood hinges to arrive before wrapping the hood. I am also looking into doing a projector retrofit in my oem 04 headlights but we shall see...still adding up materials and prices etc to see if it is cost effective vs buying 2006+ headlights.

Anyone know if the lip on my front bumper was a factory option? Just curious, most of the G's I looked at when buying this one did not have that front lip so was curious if it was oem or aftermarket.

I had on my roof, trunk lid and rear diffuser CF wrapped to match my hood. And it wasn't a bad look but after a while it all faded and I removed it. Honestly the roof is nice, my roof was painted black under the wrap, why I eventually took it off.

Aftermarket headlights for our cars are horrible. Never had but I've seen many. They have bad fitment, the light output sucks in comparison to stock and just all around look bad. I'd vote either save up and get 06s or retrofit yours.

Your lip is a factory option that was equipped on the 03-05 sport models. Kinda rare that you have it on a auto. I'd keep it, it's nice

Thanks for the info man! Yea after reading reviews and doing some reading im really leaning towards the retro fit. Im looking to see what a set of decent condition 04 headlights go for so I can take my time and do the install the right way and not put my DD down for any length of time. Still looking at my options but time allowing it seems cheaper and better to customize some 04's with exactly what I want. Might even go for the quad projector setup depending on final pricing etc.

Thanks!

Personally I wouldn't put a penny into a del sol. Unless it was a del sol piggy bank. Then maybe a del sol... Id put the cash into the G since these cars will be/will always be, so much more of a head turner when compared to a Honda. Just my 2¢

I agree, it will never be a head turner like the G. But its my roots and ive had it for 10 years! Ive built that car from the ground up for several years & had had multiple types of engines/FI setups. Basically I started wrenching on it when I was younger and just never stopped. Im on my last engine setup now but have plans to finish shortly and enjoy it. It will be my last honda build for sure but hoping to have some fun with 600whp as my goal. Both cars are fully paid off and ive thought about selling both countless times to get something even nicer but there is something about putting your own blood sweat and tears into a car that makes me not wanna sell!
