New to forum, help !

hi all, my first post on this forum. so im about to check out a 2004 G35 coupe with 85xxx miles on the clock. been reading some post about the g35 coupes. and knowing there are a few issues on earlier years G. my question is how can i check the oil consumption at the spot? or simply cant do that until start driving for some miles. not from an infiniti dealer.

Welcome aboard. I just got my 05 G35X with 84,760 miles on the clock. Checking oil consumption might be hard without driving a few hindred miles. Check and see if it has been maintained by Infiniti.I got all the paperwork for maintenance work performed by Infiniti. She was maintained since new! If she has been maintained to spec you will. Have fun driving her! Good luck on your future purchase!

JKZ the OC issue hits mainly the 05-07 coupes and the 05-06 sedans with the revup motor that came with the 6 speed manual transmission. It can occur to all VQ35De's but is far less common with the non revup engines. There's no way to spot it from a static inspection, you have to document the oil level over several thousand miles to see if your particular motor eats more oil than it should. Our motors are oil thirsty by nature so it's considered "normal" to see up to a quart consumed in 5000 mile intervals.

thanks for the welcome

sounds fair enough. so i assume there are some common problems with the 2004 manual coupe. if so, what would be the check list before purchasing?

Window motors and door lock actuators are common issues as well as crappy bushings in the compression rods and lower control arms are things to look for. The spark plug seals in the valve covers are another weak point and they can allow oil to drain into your spark plug wells. Also the driver's seat in the coupes is prone to tearing on the bottom cushion, but these are minor issues. Overall the G is a solid car that should last you up to, or over, 200K miles when properly maintained.

I would suggest having the car looked at by mechanic and getting a carfax.
