How long have you had the car? U need to use conventional oil, it will burn off slower than synthetic. Pennzoil gold high mileage. It is unfortunately just a VQ problem.

I can't comment personally on the pros and cons of using synthetic on the DE engine because I never have,
but after they replaced my short block (due to the dreaded OC issue) the 2 techs from Infiniti suggested sticking with conventional oil.
Apparently they observed many instances of more oil consumption after switching to synthetic.

Synthetic molecules are more like water so they slip through where ever its going out.

here is a grip of data on the OC issues. My '05 coupe had "mid grade" OC and once the shortblock was replaced, it consumed ZERO oil for the rest of the time I had it...The ring replacement worked in my case

I had an 05 rev up that I owned since new and it consistently used about 1qt in about 7k miles. I recently picked up an 03 z motor, vq35de non revup and it hasn't burned a drop in the 7k that I have driven it. This used motor had about 70k on the clock, I guess I got lucky.

'05-'07 "Rev Up" motors were the highest rate of failure group so your '03 is statistically safer on the OC front.

I guess I have the best of both worlds. That 03 motor went into an 05

I would of bought an '03-'04, to remove the aggravation that I have been thru. But I knew the risk.

I'll just monitor the oil, but let it be known me gots a newly rebuilt engine!
