Try pulling the codes? Maybe you have a bad cam sensor?

I invested in a Bluetooth OBDII dongle that I use with my phone. I use the Torque app from Google play. It has a lot of other interesting real time information. You can monitor timing advance and intake air temperature and stuff in "real" time. But yeah, you can use it to check codes and clear them as well.

I think at a certain point it becomes not if they fail, but when they fail.

They always throw other codes with the cam sensor code, usually they are bcm codes but I would change just the cam sensor and clear the codes before investing in a tps.
