Questions about my G35
Questions about my G35
Hello, I'm happy to have just bought a black 2004 Infiniti g35 coupe with 153K miles for 6.8K
While the engine was taken care of VERY WELL, and I mean it, my dad is a mechanic, he was loved it mechanically, it has some cosmetic, or other small flaws.
the following are:
some hail dents, some of them are close to the sunroof (I live in Oklahoma)
average size tear in left drive side seat
very small dent in bottom of exhaust
some scrapes in the rims
yellowed headlights
one of the upper light bulbs in the passenger side does not work
air bag light blinks
a bit dirty in the interior(most backseats), we're talking about typical dirt, not mud or anything
Engine is kind of dusty
in the passenger side, one of the piece of the door handle was fallen off, but it still opens, and works perfect.
apart from the beautiful coupe, I was given:
2 spare tires, both in very well condition, possibly new.
warranty on tires
the guy had replaced the battery day or two before selling it to me
free tape adapter with aux chord (if that's anything)
Questions:
1. I know the maintenance for this car wasn't going to be cheap, but how much would one of those light bulbs cost?
2.Is there a way to clear the headlights? will I be better off replacing them? if so how much would they be?
3.Will those bumps close to the sunroof eventually cause malfunction? It works perfect so far.
4.Any musts, and don'ts of owning an Infiniti G35 Coupe?
5.I'm not trying to tune it up, or much less rice it out, but what are somethings that can make my G stand out a bit more? (recommended rims, etc)
6.Why would be some reasons the air bag light is blinking?
7.What do you think of my purchase? I am a 18 year old, I have bought this with my own money earned from working. While I get payed 8 an hour, I have always been very good at saving money, and finding secondary ways of making it while not working.
Anyways, I hope I didn't pull any newbie/dumb questions, or comments. I'm trying to learn, so elitists please be gentle, I am just glad of finally owning a G.

First off I think buying this car making $8 an hour prob wasn't the wisest choice.
Try clearing the headlights and finishing with a clear coat with a uv protectant
I'm assuming the door piece is the escutcheon-search that.
Do an airbag light reset and go from there
I'm assuming you mean the courtesy strip light on the side-that's one of those tiny 168 bulbs.
Search this site-really every question you asked has been covered here tons of times
Also at $8 an hr you should not be concerned with "rims"
I know the kids in high school will be all like BROOO MURDER OUT YOUR TAILS AND MURDER OUT YOUR RIMS BRO SHIITS DOPE WHEN YOU DO CUZ ITS STILL 1992 OUT HERE IN OKLAHOMA
You'll stand apart much more being the guy with a clean subtly modded car.
Chances are you'll just put cheaper, less durable wheels on there. Pick up a set of 19" OEM rays.
I'm in OK too-the poverty mindset that is in place when modding cars out here is unbelievable.
Look at some threads talking about some good first mods.
congrats on saving to buy the car and welcome

props to u kid on saving up enough to purchase a G. I wouldn't worry about modding or adding any wheels just yet... slowly work on the problems ur car has..the only major concern I'd have with the issues u listed is the airbag.. I'd work on that first... they're there to save ur life for a reason.
Thanks for the welcome.
I'm not really trying to "pimp" my car out to impress my peers, or some ridiculous crap people from here do to try to look cool, I just wanted to personalize a little bit.
Working on the little details slowly, is exactly what I was planning to do. I would worry about the rims when I tell my self the G is a keeper 100%.
And I know owning a G35 while working for 8 dollars an hour while I'm going on my last year of high school starting August seems unrealistic, impractical, and unwise, but there are a lot worse situations. My friend owns a 2007 BMW 328i coupe with 92K miles, while he does have cheap full coverage insurance using the credit of his dad, he's the type of guy that spends his paycheck in a blink of an eye on useless stuff, and works at a movie theater for 7.50 an hour. He also is paying monthly for his BMW which he bought for 13K
I know I'm mostly gonna be working for my G35(Insurance,gas, mantainence,), I get about 400 - 450 dollars in two weeks, but I'm really good at saving money.
Yes I will be repairing the airbag light problem, and headlight bulb as soon as possible.
Any tips on how to keep the car on good conditions engine, and electronical wise? I know it's a dumb question that could apply to every car, but mind refreshing my mind?
while most of the time I like to drive the G without making it growl, in a cautious way. Will stepping on the gas, or racing it hurt it bad? I'm not trying to race like an idiot, but in a legal way, or at least a very unoccupied street which I doubt I will do anyways. Is the sunroof really delicate?

Also, $8/hr and owning this car is not a good idea. I was a very responsible money manager at 18 and this car is just too needy. I passed on a 944 when I was 20 for the same reason.

Quick question:
My friend with the BMW 328i said he could beat my g35. I would possibly believe due to the loss of horsepower done by milage, but he seems so confident in it as if he is implying he could beat any g35.

really wish I could sell my car right now...
Probably the fact that young kids like yourself are buying G's now and you are talking about possible street racing against your classmates. We can talk and compare about which cars maybe faster all day.
It makes the G community not look so hot. See where i'm getting at?

Good point here. Wait unitl your G needs tires or suspension work.
That was only for 05-07 G coupes/05-06 G sedans which doesn't apply to your 04.

I bought the car for it's engine, driving dynamics, design, comfort, interior. To me this is not a race car, it's a grand tour
Well sorry for comparing the 2, after all they are both performance luxury coupes, maybe I should focus on comparing gas mil age instead? It was just a question, I didn't buy a luxury coupe that cost bank to even increase horsepower to race.
