Cost of replacing front struts?

I don't have a G35, yet, but I'm wondering what the cost would be (approximately) to replace the two front struts? I would probably do it myself, by I live in an apartment, and they don't allow it.

Thanks

It would cost a lot, cuz you would have to change the setup to a strut system, cuz we have shocks on all 4 corners.

Haha I kid, but it would be about $500-700 to change the shocks depending on the mechanic.

My best advice is to replace all shocks/struts front and rear. Good luck finding shocks on our Marketplace, everyone wants to sell you coilovers. I running Tokico D Specs but you don't need to spend that much, I never do anything in a small way.

Thanks
I put two Tokico HP blues in the front and two KYB's in the rear. It was about 400-500 for just the shocks. Also, you might need new mounts and boots as well, so figure another 100 at least for those. I kept the old boots, but the fronts needed new mounts, since I had to dremel off the nuts. I did the project myself, so I imagine it would be about 1-2 hours of labor, so maybe 800 bucks?

If you can find one of those rent a bay places or take it over to friends house maybe you can save some money?

I might be able to do the shock and struts at my friend's house with a good DIY guide. I've done all the work on previous cars using forums (nothing too major). However, I've never done shocks and struts before.

I never did them either until a few months ago. I'd recommend air tools or an electric impact gun. You also need a macpherson spring compressor (this can be deadly), so be careful and take your time, and can be rented at an auto store. Look up EricTheCarGuy on youtube he has great vids. You can see what is needed and how-to.

Air tools I don't have, but I have been like at getting an a 2-pack of electric hand tools, a cordless drill and impact gun. Thanks for the YouTube suggestion, I will definitely check it out.

Assuming I did the work myself, how much would it cost for just the fronts? I am on a budget for just the next month or so, which is why I ask. The deal I found on a car has a couple issues, only one of which is a mechanical issue, so I want to pull the trigger on it.

I haven't used air tools on my car, but I'd recommend an electric impact gun. I bought one at Harbor Freight for 50 bucks and I use it for everything. Probably, will cost you <500 to change just the front shocks. Rent macpherson compressors from an auto tool, but make sure you get the ones with clips and metal sliding bar.

No, if you do it yourself, it'll be about $350-400 for KYB for all 4. If you have someone else do it (which is what he's asking) its about $1200-1300 for all 4 corners. Cut those prices in half if you're just doing the front.

Exactly. Mechanics kill you on labor. I didn't have the time or space to do mine so I wanted to just make a morning of it at a mechanic and they quoted me $1345 for parts and labor. Then when I realized I'd save !!!$1000!!!, guess what I found? Time and space.

Buy a full set (all 4) KYBs here on our Marketplace, KYBs will give you a firm new factory ride. If you don't want to DIY find an independent brake/alignment shop in your area, they won't charge you too much! All these members must have been quoting Stealership prices!

Advance Auto has the KYB fronts for about $250 for the pair. Where people come up with $4-$500 for them is beyond me.

I think they're talking about for all 4. People start getting confused when someone else comments on the "set". They tend not to pay attention to the OPs question.
