infiniti dealership asking 1400$ for sensor repair(p1084) ?

i have a 06(or 05?) g35 i bought few weeks ago, i have a p1084 code on, to replace a sensor.

the lady at the dealership quoted me 1300$ for the sensor replacement, which includes replacing a cover and sprockets attached with the sensor, plus 90$ for diagnosis.

only reason i went to the dealership is because this is my first time buying a non-german car and i dont know anyone in my area that specializes on infiniti, the one i know is a bit far away. hes my last option.

does 1400$ sound about right to fix the p1084 or is she trying to **** with me ? ive done major repairs on my bmws for under 500$, how is a sensor replacement on a g35 1400$ ?

also, how soon do i need to get the issue addressed ? the service light has been on for 2 weeks. i dont feel anything wrong with the car while driving, car idles at 1100.

^anyways...

OP cam sensors. You can buy them (buy OEM only) and replace yourself. Very simple. DEFINITELY not worth $1300
$300 tops

Codes are an indication of a ploblem with one of the many systems in any viechle.. No particular code indicates exactly what's wrong. That's why the viechle has to be diagnose. Now as high as the dealer can be, I don't think that any dealer should charge $1400 to replace a sensor.. Did they give written estimate? Dealers usually do.. It will detail what needs to be done. And any service the recommend it be due to mileage. Another option is independent shop. There a lot of Nissan/Infiniti techs that go into business for them selves and provide the same knowledge and profecionalisum that dealer offers at a fraction of the price... It you decide to do it your self use original parts. Most aftermarket cam/crank sensors seem not to work very well with Nissan/Infiniti...

- Exhaust Valve Timing Control Position Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection
- Accumulation of debris to the signal pick-up portion of the camshaft

What does this mean? What does this mean?

When is the code detected?

An excessively high or low voltage from the sensor is sent to Engine Control Module (ECM).

Possible symptoms

- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

P1084 Nissan Description

Exhaust valve timing control position sensor detects the concave groove of the exhaust camshaft rear end.

This sensor signal is used for sensing a position of the exhaust camshaft.

This sensor uses a Hall IC.

Based on the position of the exhaust camshaft, ECM controls exhaust valve timing control magnet retarder to optimize the shut/open timing of exhaust valve for the driving condition.

Any progress with this? I changed angled sensors located by the cam sensors in the rear and still the light comes back on. Also changed the crankshaft sensor and still hasn't resolved the problem.

They're most likely gonna change all the sensors that TeX quoted because they don't wanna misdiagnose and change one and have you coming back. That's probably why its $1400.
