06 High Mileage MT, need opinions

My 06' MT is at 105k now and currently using Castrol Edge Syntec full synthetic 5 W-30 oil.

Is it okay too switch to Castrol GTX High Mileage Blended Synthetic 5 W-30 at this point?

I'm not sure if the switch from full synthetic to blended will work.

Any other suggestions on oil at this mileage? I would prefer to stay away from Conventional at this point. I want the engine to last for a long time but not have to change oil as frequently as you would for Convrntional oils because I drive a lot.

Thanks for your help!

Honestly, if your not consuming too much oil I would just stick with the full synthetic. The benefits of it are so much greater. If you are finding that you are starting to burn a little bit then maybe try to switch but if not I would just stick with the full synthetic. That is just my opinion.

^^^ this

I switched to Dino oil just to see if I could lower my OC. (1 qt/7000mi). Too soon to tell (1000 mi), but it looks like it's working.

Is the difference between full and blended synthetic that big?

From what I remember the blended synthetic is 2/3rds synthetic oil and 1/3rd conventional so it will be a 33% decrease over the full synthetic.

Since this ^ is what you've been using successively for 105K miles you shouldn't be changing to a less quality blend!

Yes I agree, if that is what you have been using and there are no issues I suggest you just stick with it.

Thank you for your thoughts.

What if the engine is consuming a bit of oil? Still stick with the full synthetic?

Just a bit, no. I did it as an experiment.. One advantage though, oil changes are half the price of full synthetic oil.

With high mileage a "Bit of Oil" is nothing, stick with what you've been using!

I guess I should clarify what I meant by "a bit." I'm at about 6k miles from last change and I just put in two quarts of oil. Oil level is now at about the middle of the oil stick measure.

So it's looks like I burned about 2 quarts in 6,000 miles.

Yeah, that's more than "a bit". I would try a full Dino oil change.

What are your thoughts on Amsoil 5 W-30 signature series? They swear that helps oil consumption.

That or full Dino oil?

Other than being hella expensive, it's great oil. That's the stuff I ran 15,000 miles.

I don't know how it will affect oil consumption, but I'll say his, I had a 1978 Honda CB550-4 that didn't leak a drop. I put Amsoil in it an it started leaking out of every gasket on the bike.
