So yesterday i attempted my Demon eye project. I got the headlights out easily, baked them took a couple trys get them apart but finally succeeded but the when it came to taking the projector part(dont know the actual name) apart I ran into a big problem! The 4 little soft screw holding the housing together wont come out. Every time i went to unscrew one I notice the head beginning to strip. If anyone has ran into a similar problem with any screw and found a way to take them out please let me know your technique.
Man I despise soft screws. I know this is beyond obvious but make sure the phillips head bit fits extremely tight in the screw. As much downward pressure as you can muster and slowly try to loosen.
If the screw does get stripped from the picture it does look like a fairly common screw, you can use a stripped screw extractor, you can get a cheap set from harbor freight. I've welded a small rod to a screw and used an 18 volt drill to extract them before as well.
I have found that a flat blade driver sometimes works best, but you have to match it closely. The only other option I can think of is some needlenose vice grips. Sears (Craftsman) makes a set of stripped screw removal tools also.
tired everything you all suggested.. minus the welding that probably would have made matters worse haha but i ended up just removing the aluminum piece holding the lens in place.
